Minot North Dakota October 14 City Waterworks Inspector Lawrence reports the Red River Muddy Mouse has fallen ten inches between September 24 and October 10 risking a possible shutdown of the water supply if the trend continues. He urges building a dam to maintain a usable mean level as dry spells rail hauling and irrigation projects drain water.
Fall in Eastwood Park worsened by stagnant offal due to low river current. City engineer ordered to assess extending the sewer to the next bend. Commissioner of waterworks and sewer to present options at next meeting. Talks included restricting railroad water withdrawal and dam construction.

The $21,300 contract targets completion in February. Meanwhile Stanley Ketchel, world middleweight champion, died after being shot by ranch hand Walter Hurtz near Conway, Missouri. Ketchel had briefly regained consciousness before dying.
A wounded man was taken by special train to a city hospital after an early evening shooting. Ketchel’s killer Hurtz struck Ketchel with his own revolver then fled the scene pursued by bloodhounds and a heavily armed posse. A $6,000 reward was offered on Hurtz’s dead body by Ketchel’s friend R P Dickerson.
Congressman L B Hanna reports that interior officials will order a geological survey of western North Dakota coal lands next spring. Inspectors will assess the coal under surface lands to decide who gets full titles versus surface patents, addressing farmers’ concerns over title and mineral reserves.
The public library work progresses nicely and the building now presents a handsome appearance. Mr. Horton says if all goes well the project should be completed around the 20th of next month.
The school board rents the west room of the Odd Fellows hall on the second floor for a school room this year. Large enrollment and a new Domestic Science course have crowded the schools, prompting plans to add rooms and to build on the central school grounds next year.

A stranger used a McCabe elevator issued check for 126 dollars to buy clothing at Rawitcher store. Endorsed in John Lereggen's name, the check was cashed at Williams County Bank. John Lereggen later claimed loss or robbery of the check. Sheriff Olson investigates to recover the funds.
