Fowler Charged with First Degree Murder in Local Shooting
James Fowler was arraigned for a preliminary hearing on a first degree murder charge. Witnesses testified they saw the shooting and described preincident circumstances. Fowler awaits grand jury action at December term while the victim, Wn. Griffin, had family in Superior Wisconsin and had been largely absent from support. Fowler is described as French Italian and has said little since the incident.

Eleven year old shot by loaded gun accident near town
Reed, an eleven year old boy living with relatives a mile northeast of town, was seriously injured when a loaded shotgun discharged. The blast damaged his left leg, potentially crippling him, and he was taken to hospital after the accident where a surgeon said amputation might be avoided. The weapon was fired when another boy tripped with the gun.

Aged Pioneer Lady Fanny Cates Dies at 94
Mrs. Fanny Cates known as Grandma Cates a Williams county pioneer died at her Main Street home aged 94. She was survived by two daughters in Anoka Minnesota and Hillard Washington. Funeral was held at the M E Church with Rev Hollett. interment in Williston Cemetery. Her Civil War veteran husband predeceased her and she drew a small government pension.

Roosevelt Shot in Milwaukee Hotel Lobby
John Schrank, a New York man, shot former President Theodore Roosevelt in the Gilpatrick hotel lobby as he prepared to speak. The bullet struck the chest but Roosevelt’s condition improved with medical care and he was moved to Mercy hospital in Chicago for further evaluation.

Vance Woods a 33 year old baggage hand at the Great Northern Depot in Minot died suddenly around eight o clock Monday night. He entered Waverly drug store ill and collapsed. he died within minutes after a physician arrived.

Bank Robbers Remain At Large After Heist
Officers have not obtained information to capture the Springbrook Bank robbers who blew up the Spring Brook State Bank last week. The $531 loot may fund their escape as they likely boarded a passing freight. Similar robberies have been reported across the northwest this summer and fall. Mr and Mrs John Allen of Minot were Williston visitors over Sunday.

Small Wreck Delays Passenger Train Near City
An eastbound passenger train due at 12 35 was delayed two hours Sunday by a small freight wreck a mile west of the city. Three box cars of a westbound freight derailed blocking the track and caused damage. Re-roping the cars back on the rails took time and the delay impacted service.

The Military Ball at Gates Hall Friday night, hosted by the local company, was a splendid success. Onatad's Orchestra provided excellent music and guests enjoyed a very pleasant evening.

Boy Killed While Hunting Near Kenmare
Milo Maschka eight year old son of Mr and Mrs H C Maschka of Kenmare was accidentally shot and killed while hunting with two other boys at a lake shore. He borrowed a 22 calibre rifle. the bullet pierced his heart and death was instantaneous. A passerby summoned Dr McLean who confirmed the death.

Fans Watch Ball Games as Giants and Red Sox Clash
Williston fans followed the world series between the New York Giants and the Boston Red Sox. Boston won the championship in a ninth or tenth inning finish after eight games with one tie replay. Crowds gathered daily at the Williston Drug Company from 2 to 4 pm to watch the scores.

Farmers Elevator Opens as Cooperative Grain Hub
The Farmers Elevator began operations Monday near the Independent Elevator beside the Great Northern tracks. Built of wood with steel covering, it holds 30 000 bushels, powered by a gasoline engine, with carload shipments to start immediately. Directors include Fred Eckhert president, W M Wilde vice president, and W Bernard secretary. E McDormant will serve as grain buyer. The venture aims to secure the best prices for farmers and is not intended to rival nearby elevators but to aid cooperative farming.
