Williston Land Office Planned to Open July 1

The General Land Office in Washington recommends opening the Williston land office at the start of the fiscal year on July 1. A presidential proclamation is being drafted to confirm the date. Minot officials have not yet sent in required plat book lists, and transfers of several Minot clerks to Williston are anticipated once established.

Williston Beats White Earth 22 to 11 for Third Win

Williston baseball team defeated White Earth 22 11 on their home field Sunday to claim a third win. The contest opened with six Williston runs in the second inning and the score widened steadily. Upcoming games include a Sunday match with Palermo and a Decoration Day game versus Tioga, not counting toward league percentages.

O J Lysgaard of Bottineau has leased the Williston Steam Laundry from Annie Johnson and took charge Monday. He leased with option to buy and likely will become owner soon. He is a first class laundry man and promises patrons the best work.

Drowned Boy Adds To River Toll At Oakes N D

Anther drowning fatality occurred in the river at Oakes bringing the count to four in two years. The latest was Paul Hutsinpiller, sixteen, son of pioneer residents Mr and Mrs Hutsinpiller. He swam with Albert Kolterman near Bear Creek railroad bridge two miles north and disappeared after going beyond his depth.

Senate bill to create new district court in Ward and Williama counties

Senator Hansbrough appeared before the house judiciary committee to urge a bill creating a new judicial division south of the Missouri River. He reported prior talks with the president and attorney general who gave assurance no veto. The bill, already passed by the senate, was ordered reported unanimously to the house.

Minot Reporter Sold to Minnesota Publisher

Ward County Reporter says Lord George W. Wilson, long time Minot publisher, sold his plant to Sam H. Clark of Thief River Falls Minnesota. Wilson built the Reporter from a few hundred subscribers to a leading weekly, but other interests prompted the sale.

Poison Mixup Ends in Farmer Keller Death Near Sherwood

Gottfried Keller, a 65 year old farmer near Sherwood, drank formaldehyde mistaken for root beer. He collapsed within hours despite medical help. The poison was stored with root beer in similar bottles in a granary. He leaves a son and daughter.

American Vice Consul W H Stuart Shot At Batoum

American vice consul W H Stuart was shot and killed at his Batoum country place last night. The assassin escaped. Stuart, a British subject, was a leading ship broker and exporter. During last fall's revolutionary troubles he was repeatedly threatened by longshoremen. A deputation once forced him to pay 1500 dollars as a holiday gratuity for dock laborers.
