Narrow escape on Westbound Local near Ray
Almost a wreck on the westbound local Number 5 between Ray and the city last Friday evening. The rear tender wheels jumped the track and ran on the ties for about a half mile before the engineer noticed. The train was stopped, trucks reset, with only track damage. wheels cut bolt heads from couplings on the rails as the curve forced the wheel action. The trucks staying straight prevented a serious wreck.
