Notorious horse thief shot by deputy in Montana rescue

J C Brown known as Pigeon Toed Brown was shot April 29 at Bonnabel ranch 65 miles north of Glasgow by Deputy Hugh Calderwood in a posse including Sheriff S C Small and Deputy Sid Bennett. Brown died after being wounded in the room where he and companion were seated. another occupant John Maxwell was slightly wounded. Brown had evaded posses for months before the fatal shooting.

Court House for Schafer Faces Postponed Construction

Grand Forks May 7 Judge Templeton lifted the restraining order against McKenzie county commissioners blocking a new county courthouse and jail in Schafer. The ruling favors the county board who moved to erect the building after bids and lots were sought. The action arose from a dispute over Schafer versus Alexander as county seat, with Schafer currently favored. The burned courthouse left the county without a civic building as the suit proceeded. Palda Norheim represented the plaintiff. Bangs Grand Forks and Becker Williston represented the defendants.
