Northern Railway officials study Williston irrigation project
Great Northern representatives led by Max Bass and George J. Ryan visited Williston on Monday and Tuesday to inspect the Williston irrigation project. They reviewed land lists, the power plant, coal mine, and water piping, and expressed optimism about future land sales though delays in June or July due to eastern farmers’ crops. Mooney and Leedy, GN lecturers, endorsed land in the project area.

Sheriff Lampman Pursues Benner to Montana
Sheriff Lampman left Monday night for Montana to seize John Benner, accused of a brutal assault on Alex Larson six miles west of the city. The case was reported April 16, and authorities have pursued Benner since. States Attorney Van R. Brown was asked to secure requisition papers.

Scandinavian Independence Day Celebration Planned in Williston

Ceased to Suffer Campbell Dies at 34 After Kidney Disease
Lesco L. Campbell, long afflicted by a kidney disease, died at home on Friday May 1 1908 aged 34. He sought treatment in Rochester Minnesota but did not recover. He leaves a wife and four children. Buried from the Congregational church May 2 with Rev Henness officiating.

Attorney Meltzer in Trouble Again
Attorney G. C. Meltzer recently relocated from Buford and faced trouble after resisting arrest. He reportedly assaulted A. T. White last month, led deputies to his Buford home, and exchanged gunfire with Sheriff’s deputies. Meltzer surrendered after a standoff, was fined five dollars and costs, and is facing prior federal charges over obscene mailings with bondsmen withdrawing amid his Buford episode.

Runaway horse breaks leg on Main Street incident
Tuesday evening a horse drawn by a McKenzie county resident bolted along Main Street toward the Congregational church. The buggy toppled when the animal veered east, throwing the horse into a ditch and fracturing its left front leg below the knee. Unable to be saved, the driver requested Police Officer Hennigan order the animal euthanized.
