Graphic Becomes Official City Paper for Year

The city council designated The Graphic as the official paper for the ensuing year at Monday night’s meeting. The change ends a period without an official city publication and prompts renewed appreciation from the paper.

Good Roads Movement Awakens Nation Across States

The country wakes to road importance as states boost funding for highways. New York spent 8 million last year and plans another million. Texas 7 million in 1910. Georgia 3 million. West Virginia 1.15 million. Virginia 850 thousand. North Carolina 800 thousand. Arkansas farmers built seven miles. Florida considers a 10 million bond for roads and prisoner labor. Maryland already spends heavily. The article notes the hidden costs of bad roads and the long term savings of good ones.

Bailey elected National Camp alternate delegate

J. J. Bailey returned from the State Camp at Oaks where he was elected alternate delegate to the National Camp meeting in Buffalo on June 20. He went to Oaks to promote the State meeting at Williston next year. Bailey supported the effort for Bismarck, which won by a vote of 21 to 19.

Case Dismissed in Assault Case Hearing

Dan Mitchell arrested on complaint of B G Sliker for assault and battery had hearing yesterday before Justice Field. After testimony the judge dismissed the case. The dispute began last week over cattle with Sliker claiming Mitchell chewed his ear. Attorneys Palmer and Craven for Mitchell and Gilmore for Sliker appeared.

City Council Proceeds Approve Pound Master Fees and Fountains

The council introduced a resolution to pay J. C. Bromberg as pound master one dollar per licensed dog and one dollar per dog destroyed, with prior consent to receive fees. It debated two horse drinking fountains, referring their location to the Fire and Water Committee, and set pound master fees for stock at fifty cents per animal taken and per day kept. Committees were named, bids invited for street sprinkling, and ordinances discussed. Budgeted salaries for officials including city attorney were reviewed as well as street department allocations.
