State Commission Sets North Dakota Tax Figures
Bismark May 6. The North Dakota Tax Commission reports total taxes for all purposes this year cannot exceed 25,924,016, up from 20,399,682 last year. The statement estimates a maximum 28 percent rise under new laws, with added caveats about county, township, road and school levies and possible overstatements by opponents of the Nonpartisan League. Women's Club Holds District Convention in City
The Third District Federation of Women's Clubs met in the city for a two day session opening with a congregational church gathering and a banquet attended by about one hundred delegates. Onstad's orchestra provided music at the banquet and Mile. Jacqueline Bertillion, niece of a famed criminologist, spoke at the Lyric theatre about French women and the war, covering mobilization, workforce roles, and wartime reconstruction efforts. A general business session was planned for today.

Mrs Ed McKrill Dies From Ptomaine Poisoning
Bertha A Moe McKrill died in Williston from ptomaine poisoning after eating canned salmon. Born in Norway in 1882 she moved to the United States, married E C McKrill in 1908, and had three children Ned Virginia and Edward. Surviving relatives include husband three children mother and siblings. Funeral services were held at the Episcopal church with burial in Williston cemetery. The community mourns the loss of a respected woman active in local good works.

George M Stearns died in the city on Wednesday at 4 00 am of pneumonia He was born in New York in 1838 and moved with his parents to Union City Michigan at age two After civil war he went to Iowa with his mother later to Minnesota and North Dakota Where he lived since 1902 He is survived by his wife a stepdaughter Mrs L C Nelson of this place and one brother Alvin Sterns of Anoka Minnesota The funeral will be held at the Methodist church at 230 Friday

Mike Nedoff Returns From War Front To Run Paris Confectionery
Mike Nedoff, proprietor of the Paris confectionery, returned Tuesday morning from U S Army service in France. He was mustered out at Camp Dodge and came to Williston. In France he fought in the Argonne Forest. He will take over management of his confectionery here.

Capt H R Evans Returns to Williston
Captain H R Evans returned to Williston last evening from service in France. He left September 29, 1917, at the head of Company E of Williston and after training at Camp Green, Charlotte, N C, went to France with the company. In France the unit was split up and most Williston men, including Evans, joined other companies. He led a company used to train soldiers for the front. Neighbors and relatives welcomed him home and a reunion for his original company is hoped for.
