Play Day for the Schools Wil liam County May 24

Williston hosts Play Day for the schools of William County on Thursday May 24 with a patriotic May Day theme. Events begin with a basket dinner at noon, flag raising at 1 pm, parade led by Williston HighSchool band, and field events at 2:30 pm at the ball park. Prizes include a silk banner and wall medalion for top sections and overall points. If rain, events shift to Monday May 26. Schools must notify Annie McCradie of entries.

William Howe Funeral Passes At 16 In Williston Area

William Howe sixteen year old son of M G Howe died Monday May 12 of pneumonia. His mother and two other children are ill with influenza. He leaves a large family including an oldest brother who lost a leg in France. Funeral services were held by Rev Hitchcock at Thomas undertakers parlors at 2 30 PM and burial was in Williston cemetery. Mrs N E Elsworth returned Saturday from a visit with relatives in Minot and Stanley.

Rebecca's Triumph thrills Willis ton class play at Armory

A large Willis ton High School audience enjoyed the 1919 class presentation Rebecca's Triumph staged at the Armory on Thursday evening May 8. Leona Vohs Edith Sorum Alpha Bee Doris Rundell Viola Hagen led a strong cast with standout performances by Bernardine Thompson Fanneeete Ponsonault and Margaret Bennett. The cooking club members supported the drama and aided the overall success.

Former Soldiers May Wear Uniforms

The act approved February 28, 1019 allows Army veterans to wear the uniform with a distinctive mark prescribed by the Secretary of War. The red chevron is worn by discharged personnel, with specifics on placement and restrictions. Penalties for unauthorized wear include fines or imprisonment. Norman Lunde left Williams County Bank for Laurel Mont to join Laurel State Bank. The production featured strong coaching and credit to Miss Gill and the participating girls.

Mr and Mrs Kenney to Live in Minneapolis

Mr and Mrs Clyde C Kenney leave Monday for Minneapolis where Mr Kenney has accepted a position with Northwestern Electric Co He returns from New York City where he served in the Naval service Mrs Kenney formerly Miss Helen McGuiness a Williston High School graduate taught at Palmer School during his absence.

School Exhibits Highlight Webster and Central Buildings

On May 23 a general exhibit in Webster building rooms and Central school will showcase children's art work, plus sewing from Domestic Science and a possible cooking demonstration in the High school gym. Exhibits run 1 30 to 5 00 inviting parents and the public. Williston pupils have raised 1077 80 in War Savings Stamps this year. Senior High totals for 1918 1919 include 2490 25 in War Savings, 3550 00 in Liberty bonds, and 676 10 pledged to War welfare efforts with 283 50 in the first drive. Senior High enrollment stands at 264.

Williams County subscribes to Victory Loan quota

County Chairman Reiger reports Williams County has subscribed its Victory Loan quota. The list includes numerous residents such as Anton Allison, W. S. Arthur, George Anderson, Chris Anderson, Hazel Brant, Ada Claire Brownson, Frank Hanks, Mrs. W. Benton, Hjalmar Barrud, Mary Bullock, M. J. Borden, John Bruegger, and many others, with continued names on page 8.

Government considers briquetting plant in Williston

A delegation led by H O Hood and M Darling of the Bureau of Mines and C P Williams of the Interior Department visited Williston to discuss locating a lignite briquetting plant. A $100,000 federal appropriation funds study for briquetting, with a plan for a 100 ton per day plant supplying gas and leveraging local irrigation, coal lands, and mine output to spur regional development.

Plans for commencements week at Williston High School

Commencement plans are set for Williston High School with Baccalaureate on May 25 at the Armory led by Rev Geo Norwick. The program includes Kipling Recessional, Festival Te Deum, mixed choruses and a high school band concert May 26 under Prof Onstad. Class Night will feature a pantomime on the US war era, plus an alumni banquet if plans hold. Commencement exercises are May 29 with Bishop J Poyntz Tyler delivering the address. music by mixed chorus, women’s chorus, and high school chorus. Edith Sorum wins first, Margaret Jeffrey second. Community Week aims to engage the town in the week’s events.

Fargo couple Howe Anderson and Myrtle Mortensen wed

Word reached Fargo this week of the marriage of Howe Anderson of Fargo to Myrtle Mortensen, also of Fargo. Anderson formerly worked for J. C. Penney Co. in the city and is now with the Anderson Piano Co. at Fargo.

Visitors Geo Buhler and R Welliver Return Home

Geo Buhler stayed in the Miles City garage trade while R Welliver has moved to Minneapolis. Their many friends were glad to see them again after their visit in the city late last week.
