Bachelder Opposes Canadian Reciprocity Bill at Senate Hearing
Hon. N. J. Bachelder of the National Grange testifies before the Senate Finance Committee on February 1 arguing against Canadian reciprocity. He urges protection for all farm products, contends Canada’s cheaper lands and wages give farmers in the U United States less advantage, and maintains reciprocity would not lower consumer prices or farmer's returns. He cites milk pricing, potato costs, and cheese production as examples of how tariffs protect agriculture.
