Taft campaign manager lauds near certainty of 552 first ballot votes
Washington March 21 Frank H Hitchcock Taft campaign manager said only 34 delegates west of the Mississippi remained in doubt and Taft would have not less than 552 votes on the first ballot at the Chicago convention He noted strong Taft support in the south New England and several key states and estimated 46 Taft delegates from Ohio and 52 from New England with 90 unpledged votes remaining in the east of the Mississippi.

Murder Charge in North Carolina Farm Dispute
Paul Jones, a farm hand for Walter Ryan near Leeds North Carolina, was arrested on a warrant for the murder of Hans Halvorson. Police allege a brutal Thursday afternoon shooting with three shots in the back and the fourth tearing away much of Halvorson’s head.
