Democratic contests attract most attention as rural precincts report a remarkably light vote. Early returns trickle in from scattered precincts highlighting party momentum despite low turnout.
Weak turnout and bad roads marked yesterday’s presidential primaries with no major contests. In Williston the Democrats outpaced Republicans, Bruegger 172, Perry 15, Lafollette 50, Estabrook 21, Olson 60, Lemke 15. national delegates results mixed and many precincts reported “no election.” Olson appears favored for Republican national committeeman while Lafollette leads Estabrook. Democratic race for national committeeman tight between Bruegger and Perry. complete results await broader county returns.
Friday the 17th saw the opening of Roche Cash Grocery and O'Dell & Company's ladies and children's furnishing store on east Broadway. The double storefront in the Kassis building drew wide attention from city ladies who praised the fine stocks and large crowd. Onstad's orchestra performed and carnations were given to ladies.
Clarence Marshall named playing manager after Board approval. Marshall, six feet two, a civil engineer and former minor league player, impressed with his coaching, temperament, and prior play against Williston. Four to five local players expected to join, with several nearby towns likely fielding strong teams.
Eight Mile Farmers club follows a March 6 gathering with another meeting set for Saturday March 29 at 10 30 A M in Trenton Speakers include Miss Retslaff from the state Agricultural College discussing home subjects and Supt Ruzicka from the Williston Sub-Station who has just returned from two months work on reports at the agriculture department Washington A free lunch will be served at noon and a cordial invitation is extended.
A farmers meeting of unusual interest was reported, with results from G. N. Offer shared Monday. The discussion focused on vital farm interests and potential impacts on local agriculture and cooperative activities. Local growers participated, seeking guidance and insight into current market conditions.
Prof F R Crane and E A Willson spoke at a Commercial Club farm meeting in Williams County about alfalfa, hog feeding, soil fertility, and live stock use. About 75 farmers attended despite bad roads, with discussions on demonstration farms in North Dakota and moisture conservation.
The Royal Neighbors, the women’s auxiliary of the Modern Woodmen, organized a local unit of 80 members. Deputy Lila L. West installed officers on the 16th with Oracle Mrs. Rhodes and a slate including Vice Oracle Mrs. Brainerd, Chancellor Miss Myrtle La Due, and Recorder Mrs. Zahl among others.
A local committee of women's clubs schools and physicians plans for Better Baby Week during the second week of April. The campaign mirrors Miss Julia Lathrop and the Children's Bureau aim to educate mothers on infant care to lower infant mortality with support from the General Federation of Women's Clubs.
A growing city contemplates a new school building with a March 31 bond election. The plan adds three rooms next year and two more the following year, expanding junior and senior high capacity. The project includes a well lit study recitation area, central connection to Central building, gym auditorium, and a 420 seat chapel and stage for gatherings and events.
The de Koven Opera Company with 41 artists and a special orchestra presents Robin Hood at Williston Armory Saturday night April 1. The production draws praise from St Paul and Minneapolis critics for its elaborate setting and ample stage. Ivy Scott, Ralph Brainford, and James Stevens head a strong cast with a 30 voice chorus in a revived performance famed for its enduring charm and ambitious staging.
