Charles Baldwin a wealthy Williston rancher was found guilty of second degree manslaughter after a twelve hour jury verdict for running an automobile at unlawful speed that killed a boy on Main Street Williston last August. A 500 dollar fine was recommended. case moved from Williams to Ward county for trial. State’s Attorney A L Burdick prosecuted.
Minot North Dakota March 10 reports indicate scarlet fever in the city is subsiding due to strict measures by the health officer. Only two new cases in the past days and many patients improving suggest a nearing recovery. No definite update on theater and public building quarantine.
Pupils and teachers present a city schools program March 27 in the Armory featuring rote songs part songs folk dances drills marches dramatized stories readings and expressions. Most items reflect regular class work with two exceptions. Admission 35 and 25 cents. Money to loan on farm and city property Insurance J Arthur Cunningham Rawson Block 21-18.
Dairy Commissioner R F Flint will hold an all day dairy meeting at Springbrook on March 28. It is his only county appearance and farmers clubs should attend. Merrill, a leading northwest dairy expert, assists. Bonetrail March 12 1914. A joint Frams and Bonetrail Farmers Club meeting is set for March 12 at Bonetrail or the Frams Club schoolhouse with Field Agent E W Hall in attendance recounting the Wisconsin trip and insights gained.
President Wilson appeals in a joint session to sustain U S honor by repealing the Panama tolls exemption despite British protests. He calls it necessary for foreign policy and Hay-Pauncefate treaty compliance, urging a voluntary withdrawal without considering right or wrong to restore credibility and goodwill.
After March 15 Emerald Farm Dairy will be managed by Mr and Mrs L N Shelden and on April 1 Crystal Dairy will consolidate with Emerald Farm Dairy under new management. The McChesney note highlights long dairy experience and promises satisfactory service to old patrons and new customers seeking good milk.
Tink and Borsheim secured the contract for the building of the new Vohs block to replace the brick one story structure destroyed in the recent fire. The building will cost about six thousand dollars and have a full basement. Contractors began work Friday morning. Twe County Commissioners adjourned after a busy session. John Penson, awarded the road work east of the city, secured it at about two cents per yard and has been at work several days. The project, costing about $800, will grade the road to the eastern side of Muddy bridge.
N Dak. November 1914 announces candidacy for the office of Register of Deeds of Williams County. He seeks the Republican nomination at the June 1914 primary election. The notice is an advance advertisement filed by L. Hardaway.
Milena McKenzie announces candidacy for representative in Milena and McKenzie Counties on the Republican ticket for the June 24, 1914 primary. Adv. B. C. CARNEY.
Gilmer of Winnipeg arrives as Auto Mart Co new manager and with R D Bruegger plans to turn Williston into the exclusive Hupmobile distributing and service center. The shop converts to Hupmobile repairs only, with a remodeled front office and showroom, two expert repairmen, and full factory tools. Meanwhile a Scoby train collision with a Plentywood coach injures several passengers and hotel manager Mrs Ness seeks medical attention.
Ray voters approve the commission plan by a 79 to 16 tally making Ray the smallest North Dakota city to adopt this governance form. The move follows experience under an aldermanic system, aligning Ray with other North Dakota cities using the commission plan.
Berlin reports that Ernest Meyer editor of the Vorwärts was brought to trial on charges of travesty and libel over an article about Crown Prince William. Hane Tenses of Die Wall Am Montat was sentenced to six months for a similar charge, with one more suit pending next week.

Williston North Dakota March 11 1914 the Reclamation Service issues project circular No 20 detailing favorable water delivery terms for 1914 and onward including one acre foot per acre paid half before delivery and half by December 1 1914 with additional water at one dollar per acre foot for the Buford Trenton Unit half payment required upon acceptance.
The Commercial club held a regular meeting last Monday evening. Discussion centered on a bill before the commission to alter terms for water users. The Chin endorsed the water users stance on the hill, and the group considered raising the rate for the next five years to exceed one dollar. The issue of selling to farmers also drew interest. Next meetings are planned for upcoming Monday evenings with expected large attendance.
Fargo North Dakota, March 7. In one of the latest games this season Fargo high school won the state championship by defeating Minot 21 to 13. The visiting team had weight but could not solve Fargo’s defense. The title match concluded the North Dakota High School Athletic Association district finals, with Fargo beating Grand Forks in preliminaries and Minot defeating Dickinson to reach the final.
O B Distad M D announces candidacy for coroner on the Republican ticket in Williams County. He states experience in the current term has prepared him for a second term. Primary election set for June 24, 1914.
A central city fire at a seven story building housing the Missouri Athletic Club and Boutmans bank left six dead and dozens missing or injured. Fire officials warned search would resume later, while the vaults reportedly held about $1.476 million in currency and gold, believed intact.
In Bismarck on March 10 the supreme court ruled Mountrail County cannot be forced to build a new courthouse on the George W. Wilson site. Wilson had deeded land for a court house and jail, bonds were issued for 60,000 dollars, and a later block was gifted. Wilson initially won in lower court but lost on appeal. costs were awarded to him for both the trial and appeal.
The North Dakota University Glee Club makes its first Williston appearance Saturday evening April 11 as part of a state tour. Comprising twenty voices and directed by Professor Norton, the group also plans a joint concert with the Minnesota University Glee Club in Minneapolis. A large crowd is expected.

Leaders for Prohibition and women’s suffrage held a well attended joint meeting in the courthouse Tuesday. Speakers included Mr. Watkins of the Enforcement League and Mrs. Amidon who warned of man made restraints and urged reform through the ballot in the twentieth century.

About 360 prominent figures from Great Northern and North Pacific railroads, banks, Twin Cities publications, and state leaders gathered to celebrate achievements and pledge continued development.
Sam Clark editor and W R Crockard publisher of Jim Jam Jems will face a third trial in May on the charge of sending obscene material through interstate commerce. They were previously convicted on two counts and sentenced to $2,000 fines and two years at Fort Leavenworth. an appeal led to a new trial order. The new trial will occur at a yet unsettled location with a judge expected to preside.
A Ladies Aid sewing group called Onlise forms with officers: President Ole ts Tuking, Vice President Florence Tohnson, Secretary and Treasurer Pauline Wold. They meet weekly, with Lena Crow hosting the next gathering on Thursday, March 19 at Mrs Powell’s home.
rlode Martin of Glatys faced Justice Field on a charge of shooting a horse. Bound over to district court under $500 bond. Fritz Nearing testified his son Herman saw Martin with a rifle and heard two shots. The fragment ends with an advertisement for embroideries and millinery by H. V. & M. F. Safford.
