War Savings Drive committees named by chairman in city

Public food program urges Wheatless Tuesday Meatless Wednesday Porkless Saturday and daily Meatless or Wheatless meals. Advises using mutton lamb fish and poultry, avoiding beef pork and related products. Encourages pasting rules in kitchens to support the war effort.

Williston Church Census And Local Theatre Change

The Williston church census nears completion after a two day drive with about fifty people at the library to receive cards. Pastors will classify results to guide future church work as the process continues. Monday W W Boardman took over Lyric theatre from John Snyder who leaves to join the army. Vivian Martin returns for performances on the 11th and 12th, with Tom Moore in support.

Finance bill before Senate outlines 70 million appropriation

The House considers the Legislative Judicial and Executive Appropriation Bill totaling seventy million dollars for the 1918 fiscal year. The Senate debates a War Finance Corporation bill creating a 500 million dollar federal entity to supply credits for war related industries. A basket recall is planned at the Nelson school house near Bondraill on Friday evening March 15.

Baer Bill On Seed and Feed Support Faces Delay

David F. Houston testified before the Jones Committee on Agriculture against Rep Baer’s federal loan bill to buy seed and feed for farmers. The committee voted to indefinitely postpone further action. On February fourth, Baer Rankin Evans Norton Pinchot Hampton and others urged support to supply seed and feed on time for restricted districts to boost next spring’s crop.

Gardnering lecture by Mr Werner at A C College

Mr Werner of the A C College will lecture on Gardening and Agriculture with lantern slides at the school auditorium on March 20. He will speak to children during the day and to adults in the evening. reserve the date for a worthwhile talk. Mrs Basil Clark Delivers Best War Lecture In City

Mrs Basil Clark spoke at the armory auditorium to hundreds of Williaten residents on the war, condemning pacifism and praising U S readiness. She described Belgian suffering under German forces, contrasted German indoctrination with American independence, and urged national unity and support for soldiers.

Five North Dakota Men Killed in Action

Washington reports the deaths of nine privates and one lieutenant in action on March 1 in a German assault on the American trench sector. First Lieutenant Stewart W. Houey and privates Claude W Kellar Glenburn Fred Gard Crosby Willie S Romine Sanish Theodore Weng Sanish Matt Drew Fayette were killed. Mrs John Brant of Teethton spent the weekend here.
