Election Returns Show County Officials Retained Except One Judge

County returns from Tuesday precincts show all existing officials kept nominations except the County Judge. In commissioner races M C Dillon beat I O Jones 48 to 35 in the 5th district, J H Hillie defeated F P Truax 156 to 151 in the 8th. F B Chapman leads in votes, nearly equal to the ward leader, with 87 more than the next rival. Reports of a Soo extension into Montana are revived, with surveys and rights of way reported and bids soon expected.

North Dakota Land Office Appointments Sought

Senators Hansbrough and Mc Cumber urge the president to appoint North Dakotans to land office posts. Victor Chaffee for Williston receiver and George W. Williston for Williston register. Clarence C. Schuyler for Fargo register. J J Jordan for Fargo receiver. Nomination aims to open the Williston office by July 1. Jordan is Morning Call editor. Schuyler longtime Fargo resident and former land office employee. George W Wilson named Williston registrar. he has 18 years in Minot and formerly edited the Ward County Reporter.

Helena dispatch says authority reports Soo Line plans retaliation by building from Minot through Montana to the Pacific coast in response to James J. Hill’s line through the Canadian northwest. The report is current but unconfirmed.

Teachers Institute Draws Sixty in County High School

The county hosts its largest teachers institute this week in the high school with about sixty instructors including Prof. A P Hollis Miss McElfish and Prof Ellithorpe. A Monday opera house reception featured a musical program and remarks from prominent men with solo violin pieces and duets.

Williston Runs Over Wheelock 16 to 0 in Sunday Tilt

Williston defeated Wheelock 16 to 0 as Harvey allowed eight benchings while Wheelock managed only two. Williston raced out to 3 runs in the first inning and only failed to score in one inning, the fifth. A second game between Ross and Williston is slated for the Fourth and promises to be highly competitive.

Runaway Team Delays Teachers From Crosby to Institute

Miss Madge Murphy and Miss Manda Hansche, teachers attending the institute, began a trip from Crosby with a team. The horses ran away about fifteen miles out, the buggy was wrecked, and the pair walked two miles to a farmer who aided them by driving five miles before another party took over. They reached Ray and prepared to begin work at the institute the following week.
