Ray Man Dies Police Chief Elmer Smith

Elmer Smith, chief of Police of Ray, died suddenly last Saturday at about 9 a.m. of heart failure in a Ray hotel. Funeral services were held Monday with interment in Ray cemetery. A longtime state resident since 1902, he previously lived in Russell and was police chief at Minot during the I W W trouble. He leaves four sons.

Bankers Meet Closes. Fargo Wins 1917 Convention

The North Dakota bankers annual meeting in Minto ended with J. E. Phelan reelected president of the association and W. C. Meladden of Fargo named secretary. W. H. Hanks became treasurer and W. McClintock of Rugby chaired the council. Fargo was awarded the 1917 convention, with Wahpeton making no formal invitation. Resolutions urged courts to decide bank examiner fees and backing for a workable deposit guaranty law.
