Williston To Host Firemen's Tournament Next Year

Wahpeton North Dakota June 14 1911 Mayor Jackson Williston North Dakota announces the firemen tourney will be held in Williston next year Four to five hundred firemen are expected to visit with support from Minot Stanley Kenmare and other western towns The event along with the Odd Fellows convention will keep Williston busy showing it can be royal hosts.

Commercial Club Delegation Visits Medicine Lake

A Great Northern special train carrying Williston North Dakota Commercial Club members arrived in Medicine Lake on schedule. Local leaders welcomed the guests with music by Perkins Drum Corps and the Williston Cornet Band, and Mayor J W Jackson spoke about mutual benefits and Medicine Lake becoming a gateway to Eastern Montana.

Medicine Lake demonstrates modern passenger, express and freight rail service to welcome visitors. Pioneers Edw Stubban and J O Johnson noted. Williams County Fair Association chief C A Mansfield announced September 20 21 and 22 dates in Williston and praised Bow man as Montana stock pioneer. Journalists Corbett Farries and Whitehead attended, with Antelope and Plentywood on return.

Amateur makes first flight in Minot Bleriot monoplane

Minot North Dakota June 9 Dewey Dorman aviation pioneer made his first successful flight in a 50 horsepower Bleriot monoplane near the stock yards. He rose about a block then sailed a mile at fifteen to twenty feet for a cautious start. Spectators praised his nerve and skill and predicted he will become a leading exhibitor among the nation’s budding aviators.

Ground to Death Under a Plow Near Minot

Minot North Dakota June 8 Accidentally falling under a heavy steam plow on the farm of Albert Suzack nine miles north of Minot at 4 oclock yesterday afternoon Steve Wasna eight Polish pe ne was ground to death. He was about 21 years old and unmarried and was assisting in the work when the accident was discovered he was beyond rescue Judge Murray went to the scene and brought the mangled remains to Weagants undertaking parlors. Nearly every bone in his body was fractured with neck back arms and legs broken in several places.

Two Important Meetings Of Council This Week

The city council passed key ordinances 105 and 106 establishing an improvement district for grading and landscaping and a water main district within city limits. A curb plan sets sixteen foot sidewalks with a five foot grass strip and trees, while drink ing fountains locations and a revised water rate were addressed.

Divide County Sues Treasurer Over Tax Funds

Divide County has filed suit against Williams County Treasurer for 37541.13, the amount collected after January 1 1911 on land in the new county. The treasurer faced a restraining order blocking further collection. courts held taxes remained with the new county for 1910 expenses. States Attorney Brace earlier sought contempt for receiving or redeeming funds from tax sales, but the action was dismissed due to a paper error. The 19th county commissioners meeting may resolve the division issue. a suit would only be pursued if no agreeable settlement is reached.

Prof C B Waldron of the A C warns farmers who did not destroy grasshopper eggs last fall or early spring to tackle young insects now. Hatching began in May with damage reported mainly to gardens. Great Sale Opens at The Boston Store in Williston

The Boston Store sale, opened last Saturday, drew crowded crowds daily and proved one of the largest and most successful events in Williston. Garrison, owner, and A. Kelliher, manager for the T. K. Kelley Sales System, praised the total business. Dr. A. N. Currie and wife, formerly of Hatton, N D, plan to locate in Williston and have rented office space above Greengard's store for medical practice.

Grand Forks prepares for the state Elks convention on June 21 and 22 with a packed program. The lodge plans four hours of business on the first afternoon and a festival atmosphere to welcome Elks from distant places. The local lodge vows nonstop entertainment and full hospitality throughout the event.

Dates Set for Encampment at Rock Island near Devils Lake

Fargo June 9. National Guard officers meet at Waldorf hotel to announce the annual encampment will be July 7 to 17 at Rock Island military reservation near Devils Lake. The state chautauqua will be held on grounds adjoining the reservation with Adj. Gen. W. C. Truman and other officials in attendance.

Devils Lake hosts a midsummer gathering for state newspaper editors with business sessions, vaudeville at Grand Theatre, the Press Association ball at the skating rink, a morning auto tour from the Great Northern Hotel to city sights, an open dinner by the W. R. C., and afternoon athletic events including a editors’ ball game.

Teachers from Williams and McKenzie counties gather in Williston for the week ending June 9 1911 to express gratitude to citizens instructors and superintendents. Resolutions express thanks to Williston residents Valley City instructors Fargo and Williston staff and county superintendents for planning entertainment and support. A vote of thanks is also given to deputy superintendent P helper and a note about sending copies to city areas, with money to loan and land bought for cash mentioned by F. P. Bergman & Co.
