Frightened flyer wrecks Curtiss airship in New York
A frightened amateur named Alexander Williams, 42, sat in Glenn H. Curtiss’ plane and crashed after a brief ascent. He suffered a broken left arm and a dislocated left thumb with bruises, while the craft suffered extensive damage. Witnesses say the flier panicked and failed to control the rudder as it rose about 30 feet, then fell and shattered the wings and propeller. A week’s work will be needed to repair the machine.
