New Three Year Homestead Rule Takes Effect

The 1912 homestead law reduces residence proof to three years from five and limits cultivation requirements. Entries before the June 6 1912 date may final prove after three years of residence with conditions. Future filings also require three years residence with cultivation benchmarks and possible exemptions for certain lands. The act preserves commutation options and sets filing fees at 18 dollars, with entry before a district land office.
