A new American Federation of Labor friendly lodge, A O U W, is established at Hofflund on Thursday evening January 15 1903 with Chief Deputy F L Bobu of Fargo guiding the charter. Twenty four of thirty petitioners were present, officers were elected and installed, and a banquet followed a long session into Friday morning. The lodge promises regular meetings on the first and third Saturdays and touts strong membership and a long standing reputation.
A compact advertisement extols Dr King’s New Life Pills for stomach and liver troubles. It claims relief and cure, noting 25c price at Brownell & McPhee's drug store. The copy uses period-typical rhetoric about family life and domestic harmony.
H A Carey of Hoffland Williama county visited Minot Friday. He once lived here and later claimed a desert patch in Hoffland where irrigation failed. Despite water scarcity the grass grew two to three feet high elsewhere, while grain stayed only inches, illustrating irrigation value.

John Grogan, a coal miner, died when dirt caved in at Electric mine near Kenmare on Friday. Hieley was injured and likely bled to death. Grogan's age was eighty eight. he leaves a wife and thirteen children. Charles Weagant, the undertaker, went to Kenware to prepare the body for burial.
Ray Lodge No. 77 of the Ancient Order of United Workmen was instituted January 19 with twenty petitioners, sixteen present for initiation. Officers were elected, including H V Hughes foreman and N Olson recorder, with vacancies for Past Master and Master Workman. Next meeting to initiate four or five more. lodge shows active, young members.
