County Auditor Atterberry returned Saturday afternoon from Grand Forks where he attended the state convention of county auditors. He reports large attendance and a profitable meeting. Matters governing their offices were discussed and several laws recommended for change. A resolution urged the next legislature to create the office of county assessor to secure more uniform property assessment.

Fifty Killed In Collision Near Washington

In fog bound Washington on December 31 a Baltimore and Ohio wreck at Terracotta near the capital killed about fifty three and injured many as the Frederick Express collided with a local train. Engineer Hildebrand claimed fog impaired signal sighting while tower operator Phillips stood by the signal. The crash demolished two day coaches and the smoker, with several seriously hurt expected to die, potentially raising the toll above sixty.

Forger Arrested After Forged Check Passed

Sheriff Lampman took H. M. Nelson, a colored man, into custody in Minot after he passed a forged $11 check for a $2 owed at a Chinese restaurant. Nelson, formerly wanted for burglary in Havre, was found in the colored settlement and jailed.

Warrants Issued for Three Over Enderlin Wreck

County Attorney Adams of Lisbon swore out warrants for John J. Moore yard engineer Charles Acker yard master and brake man J E Walsh who ordered to flag the passenger. They face charges of manslaughter in the third degree and culpable negligence in the death of W J Danielson as the track was not kept clear for the passenger wreck that killed 11 and wounded 41.

Judge Goss to Convene Minot Court Calendar

Judge E. B. Goss will convene court in Minot on the seventh with about 200 cases on the calendar. He is expected to remain occupied through February before possibly holding another term in the county.

Williams County Bank relocated Tuesday to a newly built cement block structure just south of the West and Rawson Block. The bank’s new home was purpose built to house its operations.
