A band of armed night riders attacked Hugh Lawrence and Wash Vicker near Adams Tenn. They burned two barns, destroyed 20 000 pounds of tobacco, wounded Lawrence and his son, and assaulted a Black man named Morlow. The culprits returned fire and then fled. Lawrence and Vicker are described as Hill Billy men not Union members.
Fire started in the basement of a West Seventieth Street and Columbus Avenue five story apartment house. Margaret Landon aged 21 died from suffocation after being carried to the street by firefighters. Four of eight families were accounted for. some Sewartz family members on the fourth floor were missing. In Cleveland fire at Chandler building No. 507 Huron Road destroyed Cleve land Bakers plant and J M Bour stock with an estimated loss of 100000.
In Woburn Massachusetts on Thursday night three armed highwaymen robbed two men in Burlington before moving to Woburn where they fired on officers Timothy Welsh and Edward O’Neil injuring them. A driver and a boy were hurt, a barber was targeted but not seriously injured.
