Burke county wins and Renville loses as the Supreme Court declares the registration law mandatory. Kenmare unregistered votes are tossed, leaving Burke ahead. Kenmare voters from the primary do not need registration, and curative statutes do not apply.

Art Exhibit to Benefit Schools at Central School

On Thursday and Friday February 17 and 18 an art exhibition will be shown at the Central school building. Unframed copies from Beard Art Galleries of Minneapolis will be displayed in the afternoons and evenings to raise funds for purchasing pictures for the schools. Admission is 10 and 15 cents. Proceeds support better decoration and public enjoyment. All are invited to attend.

Death of Mrs Cutter at Woody Mountain Canada

Mrs. Cutter wife of Fred Cutter died February 6 in Willow Bunch Hospital Sask Canada after lung fever. She had lived seven to eight years on the Cutter farm seven miles north of the city and moved to Canada a few months ago. Her parents Mr and Mrs Alex Daoust and Alex Lester left for Woody Mountain January 28. She leaves four children a father and mother three brothers and five sisters.

Williston Cases Up For Trial In Williams Ward Counties

Minot North Dakota February 7 The state case against Kid Trailor charged with grand larceny in Williams county opens a series of Williston horse stealing trials moved on a venue change. Trailor accused of stealing horses from Forest Brothers March last year, transferring them to Ky Matthews ranch then to Canada before returning to Joshua Knapp. Witness Slim Bear expected to testify. Judd Miller recently convicted for ten years. Ky Matthews to be tried this term. J R Sinkler and Braatelien prosecute while Bessie and Greer defend. D W Kelly cases postponed one month due to ill defense witness.

Sheriff Returns with W. W. Todd

Sheriff Ben Olson brought W. W. Todd from Portland Oregon to face forgery and obtaining money under false pretenses charges. Todd waived exam and was bound over to district court with $2000 bond by Judge Ellefson. he awaits trial in county jail for lack of surety. Todd had fled Ambrose. extradition was initially denied, then granted on a relinquishment related to the case.

Taffy Pull at Salvation Army Hall Feb 14 Evening

A taffy pull event will be held at the Salvation Army hall Monday evening February 14 at eight o'clock. A candy question contest will precede with prizes for the most correct answers. All are invited to attend.

McCumber Warns Farm Prices Hit Tiller of the Soil

Senator McCumber of North Dakota urged in the Senate that farmers bear the brunt of rising food prices and denounced House bills to remove duties on farm articles as a legislative boycott against the tiller of the soil. He argued farmers are not getting a fair share amid high prices.

Gov Burke plans to appoint and reappoint senators every thirty days to court the state’s leading democrats. Senators Thompson and Purcell deny resignations, while Sen Burrows says commissions to fill unexpired terms are permissible if regularly issued. New Attorney for Williston Arrives from Redwood Falls

Attorney Wm. G. Owens of Redwood Falls Minnesota bought out attorney Knauf’s practice and will be associated with him until the business is closed. Owens, a University of Minnesota law graduate with eight years’ practice, has been state and U S courts admitted and twice served as county state attorney. He expects to return in about two weeks to establish offices over Citizens National Bank.

State Rest in Trailor Case at Minot Trial

The Kid Trailor trial in Williams County at Minot drew crowds as the state rested on Tuesday morning. Defense witnesses include E. E. Tooley Ira Bond Robert Slater L. L. Lampman and a Roach boy. Defense evidence expected today with another Williams County case against Kid Mathews set to proceed next.

Death of David Reeves Williams County President

David A. Reeves longtime President of Williams County died February 3 in this city after several months illness. Funeral services were held at the Congregational church Saturday conducted by Rev. W Knighton Bloom with music by a quartet. He was born November 14 1856 in La Grange Wyoming County Penn and was fifty four years old. He leaves a wife and daughter an aged mother four brothers and one sister.

Administration program outlines states and reforms

Washington February 5. Senate and House leaders endorsed the administration plan approving statehood for Arizona and New Mexico, postal savings banks, land withdrawals for conservation, federal incorporation, a court of commerce, an Alaska legislative council, and related reforms. Taft seeks ship subsidy and reclamation funding, with party unity sought for urging passage through Congress.
