Red River Valley Corn and Clover Convention Set in Grand Forks

The second annual Red River Valley Corn and Clover Convention will be held in Grand Forks North Dakota February 7 8 and 9 with three all day and two evening sessions. Speakers include Prof P G Holden Ames Iowa and other North Dakota specialists focusing on corn clover and feed crop education for farmers. A mid winter grain vegetables and feed crops exhibition is planned with potential expansion for 1912.

Fire damages state office in heavy snowstorm

Williston state office burned late last night around 9:30 as alarm arrived late due to heavy snowfall. Water delay allowed flames to gain headway, destroying type and cases. Machinery and contents likely unrecoverable. building badly damaged. Mr Whitehead held $1500 of insurance.

McCumber Seated on Indian Appropriations Committee

Senator McCumber has been chosen for the senate conference committee on Indian appropriations. His role is expected to push amendments benefiting Fort Totten and Wahpeton Indian schools, increasing funding beyond the House totals. Fort Totten gains include gymnasium eight thousand and dormitory improvements for Wahpeton add ten thousand.

Bound Over On Forgery Charge In Local Case

Tony Winkle, accused of forging another man s signature on a check and cashing it at Rawitscher s store, was arrested in Iowa and brought back. He waived preliminary examination and was bound over to district court with $800 bond, unable to furnish it thus to remain Sheriff Olson s helper until next term. The defense cites intoxication when the check was cashed. A S A Owens for the state and A F Maloney for the defense. The notice ends with a local real estate solicitation from H V Smith.

Benjamin H. Morgan and Mrs Nellie Smith were united in marriage yesterday at one o clock. Rev Hollett performed the ceremony at the M E parsonage. Attendants were Miss Irene Betts and Frank Hess. Bickford Bound Over To District Court In ND Embezzlement

G L Bickford former North Dakota state treasurer was held to district court on embezzlement charges after a preliminary hearing. His brother A G Bickford was bound as a witness. The trial in justice court extended over two days with state witnesses including Ellen Mitchell and W D Austin. Lieutenant Governor Burdick and Speaker Hanley were excused from testimony.

Powell Takes Charge of Williston Lignite Coal Co

Ray Powell has taken charge of the coal mine he leased last year to Westergaard and Blair. He will operate as Williston Lignite Coal Co from offices in the Newell Electric shop on Main Street and invites orders by phone 362. Powell previously managed the mine and coal business before leasing it to focus on his ranch in McKenzie county.

Hold Successful League Meeting

The American Woman's League held an enthusiastic meeting at Mrs J W Uhlman's home. Mrs Grant Conley presided in the president's absence as reports and discussion dominated the last regular meeting before Founder’s Chapter closes Feb 1 1911. The chapter has 116 paid members and a deed to the chapter house lot recorded. A $4 000 house will be erected in Williston next year. Marriage licenses were issued to Benjamin H Morgan with Nellie Smith and Geo R Bowen with Abbie Brothers, all of Williston.
