Valley City hosts the North Dakota Education Association from December 30 to January 1 with Dr. W. Schaffer of Pennsylvania as guest. Reunions for graduates and undergraduates are planned, and attendance urged to grow the 5000 teachers quota.
The Christmas entertainment and tree lighting at the Congregational church starts at 7 15 this evening. All children should arrive by 7 o'clock for the event.
The Williston Concert Band hosts a masquerade ball at Gates Opera House on January 15. Prizes will be awarded for the best masquerade suits, and attendees are urged to prepare their costumes to avoid being left out in the cold.
Kalil Brothers will open a general goods store in Marmon Addition just west of A. H. Brown's house shortly after Christmas. They plan to serve the northwestern city trade and carry a general line of goods.

The Missouri Supreme Court barred Standard Oil of Indiana and Republic Oil from doing business in Missouri and dissolved Waters-Pierce Oil of St. Louis. Each company was fined $50,000. Waters-Pierce may stay if by January 15 it proves it will operate as an independent entity.
Representative Marshall of North Dakota introduced a bill affecting lignite coal region lands. It provides patents to settlers cover surface lands while coal rights grants convey no surface title, enabling patenting of lands currently held up.

John Green, sought for drawing a gun on Shoemaker Carlson last summer, returned to town and after resisting arrest by Chief Hennighan and Policeman Lunceford, was disarmed and jailed. He faced assault with a dangerous weapon and later a charge of pulling a gun on the chief, with bonds set at $500 and $1,000 respectively. Green waived examination and remained in jail until district court convenes next February.
The Interstate Commerce Commission upholds Soo, Northern Pacific, and Great Northern shipping rates west of Velva Mandan and Denbigh North Dakota. It rejects J. W. Reed’s complaint about higher minimum car weights for cattle from Portal ND to Chicago, noting western cattle fatten to exceed 24,000 pounds per car. The decision contrasts with 22,000 pounds east of the line.

Mr and Mrs M B Williams came up from Minot today to visit with their daughters Mrs Brown and Mrs Corbett including Brown's son.
Lincoln Nebraska December 19 robbers last night raided the State Bank of Coresco eighteen miles north of the city overpowered a boy who surprised them at their work demolished the vaults secured 3000 and escaped. Wednesday night a bank in Chase county was robbed. Early Friday morning the banks at Boone and Gibbon were looted with 5500 taken. Jas Malone Burlington detectives chief said the same gang likely robbed all the banks and they are traveling in an auto.
Police led by Chief Hennighan raided Coney Island around ten o clock Saturday night. Step Davis and Pat Grinnen were arrested for running the place. Eighteen cases and five kegs of beer were seized. Grinnen pled guilty to selling liquor and was fined ten dollars. Davis had a hearing set, but was continued until next Monday due to his attorney's absence.
