Crowds Watch River Bank Riprap Weaving Willow Mat

Crowds in Williston observe the river bank riprap work as a fifty to sixty foot willow mat is woven to cover the bank. Heavy wires cross and bolt at intersections, anchored upstream to hold the mat through spring thaws. Train loads of rock are placed on the mat along the bank, reinforcing the river defense against the Missouri.

Far reaching ruling expected from Montraille ward case

Grand Forks N D Dec 26 The North Dakota supreme court faces a ruling with broad implications in the Montraille Ward county case The decision could invalidate votes increasing debt limits or county court powers where a majority of those voting on a single proposition did not exceed half the total votes cast The case will be argued in Bisma rk next Tuesday with George A Bangs of Grand Forks representing the supporters of the new county.

Reward Offered for Recovery of Six-Year-Old Mare

Oriental Limited Robber Caught

A telegram reports a bandit confined in Clay county jail. James Murnane, a Bertillon expert, identifies him as one of the men who robbed the Oriental Limited near Rondo Montana on September 12 1907 gaining nearly 50 000 dollars. Rewards totaling 13 000 have been offered.

Divorced Wife to Get Alimony

In St. Louis the court of appeals ruled that a divorced wife may seize her former husband earnings and property to enforce alimony even if he has remarried. Miles Anderson, a clerk, refused $25 monthly alimony, arguing remarriage creates hardship. the lower court had ordered payment and the appellate affirmance upheld. Judge Bland stated hardship is created by the defendant, not by law, and affirmed the ruling.

Embezzlement Charge Involving Coal From Stewart and Boyce

Robert L. Stewart was arrested on embezzlement charges filed by his brother in law Sam Boyce. Boyce says coal from a briquetting plant contract shipped to Denbigh, North Carolina was worth 150 dollars and money never reached Boyce. Hearings moved between Justices Poe Blankenship and Judge Goss. no decision yet.
