Great Northern Surveyors Plan Zahl Work
C H Hickman chief engineer for the Stanley branch of the Great Northern and three assistants visited the city early this week. They left yesterday for Zahl to conduct significant work on the Stanley extension. Hickman said the Stanley survey would join the northern survey near Zahl, and the Williston branch would not be built. From Zahl the Stanley line will extend along the old survey north and west.

Giant meteor splits and falls near Dubuque Iowa
Des Moines reports a huge meteor seen Sunday afternoon near Dubuque was found to have split into two parts, one landing near Dyersville and the other near Manchester. The larger piece weighed over a ton and struck earth hard, causing houses to shake and a thunderous roar as it fell. The meteor displayed a fiery trail and appeared as large as a bushel basket.
