Washington reports a proposed postal reform that would abolish four assistant postmaster general offices, create a director of posts with seven assistants, and divide the system into 15 districts. A joint commission expects to finish the bill this week.
North Dakota shows 4317 divorce decrees from 1889 to 1906 while South Dakota records 7108. Wives obtain twice as many decrees as husbands with desertion the leading ground. Alimony granted in about one eighth. adultery and cruelty also cited. Few cases are contested at about fifteen percent.

President Roosevelt signed proclamations creating the Ocala National Forest in Marion County Florida and the Dakota National Forest in Billings County North Dakota. The Florida forest covers 200 408 acres with a quarter already allocated under land laws and suited for forest growth. The North Dakota forest spans 14 080 acres and marks an experimental planting field in a state with only about one percent tree cover.
A Thanksgiving evening Leap Year party hosted by the young ladies of Williston drew a large crowd at the Odd Fellows hall. Prof. Onstad's orchestra provided the music for dancing before a three course supper at the Grill Cafe. Out of town guests attended and the event was praised as a brilliant society affair.
In St. Thomas North Dakota a Hungarian immigrant named Stefan One faces a Hungarian military court martial for desertion. He returned to Hungary after hinting at US citizenship, was captured crossing the border, and now awaits death by shooting as Hungary insists on punishment for his service defection. His American relatives cannot intervene.
Frank W. Mead, who arrived in St. Paul in 1857 as a printer and editor on the Pioneer and later the Pioneer Press, died yesterday in the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis at age 73. He previously lived in Dakota territory and held several territorial offices.
The city and G N discuss placing the sewer main on the railroad right of way with a diagonal route. G N officials require minor changes due to upcoming improvements. City engineer will adjust plans and let the contract, aiming to start work early in the spring. Henry Schwarts of Wheelock visited Williston Thursday and Friday.

Adolph Erdman of Willow City North Dakota and Winiford Guthrie of Stady were married by Rev. M. L. Haley on Thanksgiving day at 10 o clock. The bride, from a wealthy Carroll County Indiana family, has ties to Holy Angels Academy Logansport. The couple plan to reside on the bride’s homestead four miles west of Study.
North Dakota officials report President Roosevelt proposed nationwide gatherings in school houses and town halls on December 5 to discuss country life topics. County superintendents and school officers are urged to assist, with school boards and supervisors coordinating in each district. The memo notes collaboration across township and district systems to host central gatherings.
W L Stockwell superintendent calls on county superintendents to inform school board presidents about a circular from the commission. It lists topics including rural school efficiency farmers organizations farm labor road needs postal facilities and farm sanitation. President elect Taft has accepted an invitation to preside over the joint conference of the national conservation commission with the governors of the states in Washington on December 8. M W A notes a lively Woodmen meeting next Tuesday evening at the Odd Fellows hall in Woodcraft. Miss Ida Husebye is visiting Minneapolis and plans to travel next to Waukon Iowa to visit her mother.
The Williston Commercial Club met at the courthouse to consider supplying willows for riverbank riprap. Engineer Sanford of the Reclamation service reported a bid by John Penson and city funding. J W Jackson was told to confer with the council. The council later appropriated 1000 to aid the project, benefiting the city’s power plant, water pipes, and sewer line.
The Ladies Aid of the United Lutheran church will hold a sale and supper in the Odd Fellows hall on Saturday night December Sth. A musical program will include piano duets and solos and vocal numbers by a mixed quartet.
New York November 27 The Associated Press reports Frank P Hitchcock has been offered and accepted the postmaster general position in President Tafts Cabinet making it the first cabinet post filled.
The Salvation Army announces enrollment of soldiers at their hall on Sunday night December 6. Those who decide will be sworn in Monday and Tuesday nights December 7 and 8. Major John Milsaps of Minneapolis, with over twenty years’ experience, will lead special meetings. His topics include Christ's saving power and a questions program for youths.
City workers have to extend the water system for a week and a connection is being made to the West Lawn extension. Water is shut off today during the link up between the new and existing mains.
