Williston Race Meet Proves Western North Dakota Favorite
Williston's first race meet drew a record crowd despite heavy morning rain that slowed early events. Gray Ghost won the farmers pace with Ben and Art McGahey’s Silver following. Muggins and Tuesday claimed top places in the half mile. Florence Edith won the 2:40 pace ahead of Grace Evans and Gray Ghost in a famed heat sequence. Marion Lockheart and Louise Bell led several 2:15 and 2:40 heats, while Governor Burke spoke on Missouri navigation. Tommy Gratton won the free for all heat series with 2:14 final. The Williston Band provided steady music throughout the event.

Soldier Boys Leave for American Lake
The members of Company E departed Saturday night for American Lake Washington to undergo a ten day camp under regular army officers. The journey from Williston was nonstop except for coal and water with a dining car supplied by the troops. Captain Arthur L Knauf led the party with a full roster of officers noncommissioned officers and privates. The group will experience real army life with maneuvers and discipline. A meeting preceded the departure electing C A Johnson as president and Tom Hall as secretary. Senator P J McCumber spoke urging Republican unity for victory in November.
