Harvest time is here with a merry hum of mower and binder. Cool nights and sunny days have brought crops to satisfactory maturity. Oats are nearly all cut, wheat ripening rapidly, and an excellent yield is expected with few bad spots. If weather holds, most grains will be cut within a week.
Westhope North Dakota August 10. Orders for the necessary pipe are forwarded and a local businessmen group granted a city franchise will push work rapidly. The move aligns with a regional push to exploit the newly discovered gas and oil resources in the belt near the town.
Washington reports President Taft plans to offer an embassy to Dr. Cyrus Northrop of the University of Minnesota, a former Yale student in Dr. Northrop's English classes and a close personal friend of Taft. Sheriff Olson's deputies arrived from Montang this morning with three horses stolen from Elling Benson on March 1. The animals were reportedly sold by Ki Matthews to Danes living north of Dagmar, Montana, where they were found in their possession.
Minot August 11 The State Bar association executive committee will meet at the Commercial club to pass on new member applications and outline the program. Thursday morning sessions start at the courthouse with Mr Hughes of Chicago delivering the main address. A Friday banquet with toasts closes the event. attendees include Geo A Gilmore L A Knauf and B C Carney from Williston.

Harvey North Dakota August 9 three boys stacking hay with a bucking pole and two horse teams three miles south of Velva were struck by a bolt during a severe electrical storm all survived though one team was instantly killed. A boy suffered torn flesh from ear to cheek and foot injuries while another had a long burn across the chest the third was stunned before seeking aid from a neighbor. Two of the boys are named Fuller. the third's name could not be learned.
Ki Matthews, central figure in recent Montana horse stealing cases, was rearrested Tuesday in Dagmare by Deputy Odegard and Constable Veles. State attorney released him previously for lack of jurisdiction. Trial scheduled for Friday at Mondak.

Special to the Graphic reports an early August accident near Minot where a rider on a velosapede was struck and thrown into a ditch. He survived with bruises, received treatment at Minot. Also a Perth resident, Frank Anderson, died in bed after being found by Mrs. Anderson. Coroner ruled death by smothering amid epilepsy-related concerns.
Spokane Aug 9 thousands gathered at 10 oclock for land drawings on three reservations. Each Coeur dAlene applicant has one chance in 33 while Spokane applicants face one in 400 and Flathead in 15. Can weight 2685 pounds were prepared with 53 cans. Helen Hamilton Christian Dolan and Harriet Peat will draw envelopes announced by Judge James W. Witten.
A cloud burst and heavy electrical storm struck Bismarck last night with no wind. Basements on Main street flooded causing about $15,000 in stock losses. Best clothing store suffered the heaviest damages while barbers and other street level businesses faced major inconvenience.
James J. Hill offers gold prizes for top small grain and grass exhibits grown within twenty five miles of the Great Northern Railway for the National Corn Exposition in Omaha from December 6 to 19. Awards include 15 dollar first prizes for spring wheats Fife Blue Stem and Durum, winter wheat, oats, barley, peas, flax, corn, timothy seed, clover seeds, and alfalfa, with smaller sums for seconds and thirds. sheaf categories offer 6 dollar first prizes for various crops. overall, a wide range of grain and forage crops are recognized with cash awards.
Walhalla and surrounding country faced a disastrous hail storm the largest in state history. Storm covered about 240 square miles from boundary southeast to Grafton, with 40 square miles completely bailed out and grain losses around 300000 bushels. Glass damage in Walhalla ranged from 1200 to 1400 dollars, with heavy losses around Backov Leyden Cavalier. Eastern Walsh county towns St Andrews and Acton also reported 100000 bushels lost. Farmers remain hopeful and determined to recover.
Ada Clare Brownson sustains a broken left arm while visiting relatives at White Earth after a fall from a fence. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Brownson, retrieved her from White Earth and brought her home last Tuesday.
Williston business leaders and county farmers decide to hold a Williams County fair on September 29 30 and October 1. Prizes will be awarded for county grain and livestock exhibits. A new Women’s building will be erected at the fair grounds with a nursery and rest room.
Judge Goss here Wednesday heard Ed Larson's habeas corpus challenge after a district court bound him over on horse stealing charges. Defendants Bes sie Greer and State’s Attorney Stame ap pearing. writ denied as custody and probable cause found. Larson’s bond was raised from $1,000 to $5,000. Judge Goss praised for crime-stamping efforts.
