Williams County Red Cross ships record knitting aid

The Williams County Chapter sent the largest ever shipment of knitted articles and garments, totaling 1504 pairs of socks, 60 sweaters, and 20 wristlets plus numerous bandages and clothing. A countywide inquiry aims to place every woman over 16 into Red Cross work through a detailed questionnaire campaign led by Mrs. James Carney and Mrs. Hegge.

Third shipment sends about 200 books to soldiers in France

The third shipment of books for the soldiers and sailors libraries left the Williston area this week, delivering roughly two hundred books to France. Books came from Ray Wildrose and nearby areas, pushing total local dispatches past a thousand with pride.

Williston Teacher Writes From South 1918 Letter

A Williston North Dakota teacher H K Brown writes from Salem Virginia July 20 1918 describing farm work harvest and threshing in Virginia and plans to work with Norfolk and Western Railway linesman crews later. He notes German internment in Hot Springs North Carolina and reports on Allied counter offensives and hopes for active service while praising Virginia Guardsmen and state uniform orders. He highlights Camp Dodge library shipments 10620 books to Camp Dodge and 14000 to embarkation ports and describes overseas distribution through Y M C A Red Cross Salvation Army chaplains and canteens totaling 600000 books with more needed to comfort troops.
