Will Start Fund For War Effort In Territory

The commission announces an immediate plan to launch a fund funded by 2 contributions from every resident. A trial run will occur next week with a goal to raise enough money to meet all needs. A further announcement on benefits for war funds is expected in a few days.

Missouri Ridge Farmers Club Hosts Dinner and Program

The Missouri Ridge Farmers Club hosted nearly ninety visitors from the Happy Hollow Farm and Dairy Club at a dinner under a tent at the schoolhouse. Hon. John Bruegger spoke on the Williston Creamery and farmer cooperation, noting over $7000 paid to farmers in June. a joint program followed with songs, recitations, and sketches lasting about two hours.

Farm Labor Exemption Sought For First Year Of War

Carl Vrooman assistant secretary of agriculture says farm labor should be temporarily exempt from the draft for the first year of the war. North Dakota Bone Dry Law Questioned by Justice Robinson

Justice James E. Robinson declares North Dakota has no bone dry law valid for personal importation of liquor. North Dakota First Antitrust Indictment Targets Local Firms

Williston wholesale firms Gamble Robinson and Nash Bros plead not guilty to Sherman anti trust charges. Indictment alleges monopoly on fruit in the Northwest. Grand jury handed down eighteen indictments with about sixty more expected before term ends. Local officials indicated liquor violations were the broader reason for the jury summons. District Attorney Hildreth said the case marks North Dakota’s first antitrust action.

Hottest North Dakota Day Records Across State

Last Friday marked the hottest day in Williston and statewide reports show similarly extreme heat. Temperatures reached 106 with morning lows around 77 and a weekly summary notes 0.08 inches of precipitation and a normal 0.86 inch. Union Church services feature Rev. James Hoffman Batten delivering sermons on life measurements and wartime themes.
