Minot Judge E B Goss denied a habeas corpus petition by Nels C Anderson a wealthy Iowa farmer seeking custody of 17 year old Inga Show of Bowbells. The girl had lived with Anderson since age five after her mother died. Her father later retrieved her to Bowbells where she now resides.
An April 16 Chicago dispatch reports Voliva demanding Dowie settle with Zion supporters who contributed funds for aims other than those used by the apostle. Dowie’s counsel rejects any financial settlement, insisting no agreement will be reached on monetary terms alone.
A lengthy statement from attorneys Emil C. Wetten and Deacon F. H. Whitee explains Dr. Dowie has not been offered or accepted any agreement that would pay him five or nine and a half percent of Zion City assets in exchange for relinquishing claims. The document asserts Dowie will not profit personally and notes his will directs most of his estate to the church. Dowie’s supporters say he sought legal counsel to protect Zion and investors and prefer an out of court settlement if possible. The estate is estimated between 15 and 21 million dollars and Dowie has not yet proceeded to Zion City. The note also mentions Dowie abandoning plans for a triumphal return and references related publications.
