Brutal assault on farmer near Mondak reported

Alex Larson, a farmer six miles west of the city, was attacked Sunday afternoon by three men. He suffered severe injuries including a cut under the right eye, a split lip, loose and missing teeth, and a broken larynx side. Principal assailant named John Benner, a prize fighter, with two accomplices remained at large as authorities searched Sunday night.

Washburn North Carolina Delegation Seeks Reclamation Funds

A Washburn North Carolina delegation led by J. T. McCullock and others travels to Washington to secure funding from the reclamation fund for the Washburn Wilton irrigation project in McLean County. The plan would irrigate about 10,000 acres via a Missouri River pumping plant at an estimated cost of $20 to $30 per acre.

School lands sale raises funds for permanent fund

Bismarck N D April 11 sale of school lands here was very successful though less land sold than expected. Average price 13 dollars per acre with some parcels reaching 17 dollars. Receipts totaled nearly 100000 dollars for the permanent school fund.

Transient merchant fined in state license case

C B Catlin who sold bankrupt Globe store stock for the Minneapolis Wrecking Co was arrested Monday night on a transient merchant charge. A 1907 law requires a $75 state license and up to $25 daily city fines, with a $500 bond if the daily fine is unpaid. In justice court Judge Mitchell found Catlin guilty and fined $25 plus costs totaling $76. he gave notice of appeal.

Dam Break Releases Massive Water From Huser Lake

The Huser Lake Dam, twenty miles north of Helena, broke Tuesday afternoon releasing a 70 foot high wall of water that swept 22 miles along the Missouri River. About 300 feet of dam wall failed with canyon communities warned moments before flood. the torrent reached Great Falls and is expected to raise the river level elsewhere, harming the region below.

Congregational Brotherhood Formed In Local Church

In cooperation with the National movement of the Congregational church a Brotherhood organization began last Sunday with many men present and engaged. A meeting is set for Sunday April 26 at 4 PM at the church to finalize its permanent form. Membership is open to all interested in mutual brotherhood and personal enjoyment and improvement.

Death penalty return in State v Noah in Minot

In Minot North Dakota on a Saturday afternoon the jury in the case State versus R S Noah found him guilty and recommended the death penalty. Noah showed no emotion during verdict while four guards were assigned to his custody and his wife Mrs Noah wept openly.

Attempted arson at Edmore store ends in near miss

Edmore North Dakota on April 11 a rear door break in failed incendio attempt at R. M. Spence's wareroom. A waste paper fire charred the floor while a frozen water barrel and a kerosene tank were misused. RE Hancock smelled smoke and found the blaze by the east wall near the oil tank, averting total destruction.

Horses Burned at Rugby Fire Destroys Barns

In Rugby North Dakota April 11 a blaze swept the North Dakota Land and Grain Co barns killing 33 horses and 2 cows. Forty two harnesses 1000 bushels of oats ten binders and other machinery burned. Loss set at 20000 with only 4000 insured. Tenant J P George owned thirteen animals and had no insurance. The barn was fully engulfed when discovered.
