Dr J D Taylor is elected mayor of Grand Forks by 159 votes over George E Duis in the largest mayoral vote in city history 2 199 ballots cast with few out of town. In Minot Sam H Clark wins mayoralty by 160 over William Dunnell with wards split and library tax passing.

Legislature Has Power To Amend Statute Of Limitations

Supreme court ruling from North Dakota states the legislature may amend the statute of limitations and apply it to existing actions with a reasonable grace period. The ruling clarifies statutes are generally prospective unless clearly intended retroactive. It also holds that 1905 mortgage foreclosure suspension provisions do not apply to preexisting actions.

Men Discharged From Custody In Glenburn Case

Judge Davis ruled the evidence insufficient to bind Sheridan and Harris for trial and ordered their release. About fifteen Glenburn witnesses traveled to Minot for a preliminary hearing into the shooting that killed Wm Bennett. Delays arose from missing counsel and adjournments as the hearing extended through Tuesday to Thursday with no direct evidence tying anyone to the shooting.

Minot April 6 An order compels Barney Frank to turn over 1600 dollars to Dudley Nash trustee in bankruptcy for creditors. Referee J H Lewis issued the order to show cause in a civil action. a criminal charge for concealing property also pending. Appeal to Judge Amidon anticipated if the order is affirmed.

Gotch Wins World Title In Prolonged Bout With Hackenschmidt

Frank Gotch defeated George Hackenschmidt in Chicago to claim the world heavyweight wrestling title after about two hours of grueling action. Hackenschmidt signaling surrender as Gotch repeatedly escaped and secured decisive holds, with 8,000 to 10,000 spectators watching and Gotch earning six thousand dollars.

Professors Visit City for Experimental Farm Plans

Prof J H Shepperd of the N D A C and S W Roeding met in the city early in the week to select ground for irrigation and dry farming experiments. They chose sixty acres for irrigation work and reviewed grounds for numerous farm improvements with Director John Bruegger and Supt Scholander.

Freight Wreck Delays Trains West of Glasgow

A head on collision between two freight trains west of Glasgow derailed both engines and over twenty cars. No injuries were reported. Engineers were John Hoffman and CG Smith. Passenger service from the west remained halted until about eleven this morning.

Williston Investor Pays $2500 for Brikette Mine

R L Stewart of Williston arrived in Grand Forks to settle a $2500 payment on the Brikette mine bought from Standard Coal. He reported a contract to supply 3,000 tons of lignite to Denbigh Pressed Brick at Denbigh, N Dakota, and planned to restart briquetting plant machinery on returning to Williston.
