John Treton, a Homesteader west of Hardsfield North Dakota, battled a prairie fire that nearly reached his shack. He released his livestock and fought flames until exhaustion, losing his house and barn. neighbor alertness saved his life though he suffered severe burns.
F. P. Bergman and wife arrived last evening from Rugby and plan to locate in Williston. Bergman is in loan and real estate and is regarded as a progressive, respected Rugby citizen.
In Westhope North Carolina on March 24 the town cleansed itself of blind pigs. Local businessmen confronted liquor vendors in broad daylight, forcing closures as sellers fled before witnesses could be secured.
A 10 year old boy, son of S A Ludwig of Ashley North Dakota, was instantly killed when a mare kicked him in the head while playing with a colt. The skull was fractured and brains were scattered on the ground. Companions were attacked but escaped unharmed.
Jamestown North Dakota April plans confirm the Pingree Wilton railroad extension will start grading April 11. Guthrie Co of St Paul holds the general contract with subcontracts to Edward Sweringen of New Salem and James Tobin of Seattle. Contractors report strong demand for labor and teams, with expected pay per cubic yard higher than last year.
Bismarck records show state receipts 1 415 195 32 dollars and disbursements 280 747 50 with a March 31 balance of 2 609 000 00 dollars making the month the largest in state history for a single month.
The farmers institute closing the season praised by Mr. O. C. Gregg who led sessions in Minnesota style for over twenty years. Two men Jack Booye and Pat Meehan are jailed in Towner as officials await the outcome of the investigation. Doctors removed part of Rice skull to relieve a brain clot. he was involved as Rugby’s longtime police chief.
A first class machine shop will open in Williston near the round house on Tooley lots. The Williston Machine & Boiler Company will operate with L. N. Stice as manager and install a full repair outfit for automobil e boiler and threshing machinery. They expect to begin business about May first.
St Paul Minn April 5 Captain I P Baker of Bismarck ND says the United States government will likely begin revetment work on the upper Missouri river in July The river and harbor bill now with the commerce committee awaits senate reporting and carries an amendment of 300000 dollars for improvements above Kansas City 175 000 dollars as noted continued on page 6
