Schools to Present a Smear t Exn it Exhibition

During the week of April 21 the High School Auditorium will display carbon photographs photogravures and color prints loaned by Elson Art Publication Co. of Belmont Massachusetts. The exhibit aims to raise funds for public school picture purchases and admission is charged. The collection covers about two hundred subjects from major art schools and reproductions of world masterpieces. Willis ton schools and citizens are praised for bringing the opportunity.

Mrs Harold M George Dies After Illness

Mrs Harold M George died at home on a Monday morning after scarlet fever ended her brief illness. Born Francis Dixon in Aberdeen South Carolina January 25 1897 she studied journalism in Wisconsin and worked as city editor and society editor in Moorhead Williston and Fargo before moving to Williston with her husband. She left a newborn son Francis Harold George and is survived by her husband a brother sister and two others. the body was sent to Aberdeen for burial.

Voters produced a sparse turnout totaling fifty eight votes with the Second Ward giving Milroy and Monroe a clear lead for the two commissioner seats. N B Ludowese wins Police Magistrate while John T Austin secures the Justice of the Peace post amid scattered write ins and rivalries.

Williston Hosts North Dakota Regiment Band Concert

The First North Dakota Regiment Band drew large crowds in Williston on Tuesday. The 35‑piece ensemble arrived from Minot, gave a 2 PM city showcase near the Great Northern Hotel, and performed at 8:15 PM at the Armory to a packed house. A dance followed, praised as the best of the year. Three former Williston boys in the band will tour the state through about the 18th.

Million Dollar Band Tour Reaches Williston

The Million Dollar Band from Harvey North Dakota on a state tour began Tuesday and will perform in Williston soon. After serving in France the band earned second honors among U S bands, with locals arguing they deserved first. Williston date details to appear next issue.

Heffernan Sells Dray Line To Breen and Ball

John Breen and Gunder Ball purchase the Heffernan Dray line at the start of the month. Both are veteran draymen in the city and plan to maintain the high standard of service established by the previous owners. Heffernan continues with taxi and bus line operations.

Misses Ester and Hazel Brant spent Sunday visiting in Stanley and returned to Williston Monday morning. A Michelich manager of the J C Penney store left yesterday for the Twin Cities to attend a meeting of J C Penney store managers.

Children Win War Savings Stamp Contest in County Schools

Rieger, Wil liams County chairman, reports sales of War Saving Stamps in Central Webster and Junior Senior High Schools. March results show Central School per capita $1.30 with $33.89 in stamps. Webster First Grade $10.53 per capita 28c. Totals up to April 1 reach Central $398.95, Senior High $61.82, Webster $187.68, grand total $735.60.

Tioga Farmers Form Shopping Association

At a Tioga meeting last Saturday farmers in the Tioga district formed the Tioga Farmers Shopping Association. Initiated by the Benson Valley Farm Club the group aims to band farmers together to ship cattle directly to market, cutting out middleman profits. County Agent E G Scholander attended and spoke.

City Beautiful Meeting Tuesday

A meeting to form a Horticulture or Floral Society to beautify the city will be held at Library Hall Tuesday evening at 8. Representatives from women’s clubs and schools are expected. Tree and shrubs will be offered at cost and guidance on planting provided.

Sheriff Catches Boy in Trenton on Return to Minot

Sheriff Mackenroth took eleven year old William Kende of Minot into custody after catching him in Trenton while he walked from Minot to Miles City to seek work. William carried a suitcase with clothes, a toy gun, and gum. He spent the night in Williston and was sent back to Minot on Tuesday. His father works as an engineer in a Minot mill.

Library reports record March circulations surpassing past years

The March circulation reaches 2831, beating previous months and last year. A large borrowers’ register adds over 100 names in the month. April 6th starts Children’s Week with the U S Children’s Bureau and Council of National Defense notes.

Real War Tank Visit To Williston Next Tuesday

A U S Army war tank will tour Williston next Tuesday April 8 in support of the Victory Loan drive. The tank crew will be chosen and the event is part of a nationwide loan push expected to be large with details on interest and total amount to be released shortly before the drive. City officials including Chairman Rieger coordinate committees and aim to display the tank long enough for all residents to view it.

Doctor Dochterman Returns to Williston After Absence

Dr Dochterman returns to Williston resuming practice after five months away. He will operate from the Hedderich Building. He served with a captain’s commission at Fort Riley before postgraduate studies at Tulane, New Orleans, and time at New York, Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, and with the Mayos. He traveled to South America aboard a United Fruit Company ship and visited Colon, Santa Marta, and Central America. Mrs Dochterman joined him in Williston.

State Game Warden Nets Dozen Arrests

State Game Warden Peter Scott with deputy Joseph Flanagan arrested about fifteen in the vicinity for violations of state game laws. Reports say hunters in the area hunted deer and after sunset, with many pleading guilty. More warrants and arrests were anticipated as Scott continued inquiries in Williston and surrounding districts.
