Harlingen reports a rise of 24 079 bales in the lower Rio Grande Valley cotton crop. Total ginned 52 933 bales with Cameron 18 271, Hidalgo 16 559, Willacy 13 905, Starr 4 208. Last season's valley total was 28 854 bales despite 27 773 acres plowed up by 1 700 growers.

Up to Wednesday night Whitewright gins reported 2418 bales of cotton, 343 more than the same point last week. Gins were crowded Thu Fri Sat. weekly receipts fell due to showers. Last week totaled 560 bales. Local ginners estimate at least 4000 bales will be received this season amid steady markets and price changes. Cotton prices rose last weekend but were mostly steady this week with strict middling at 10 cents and seed at $13 per ton.

Free Pork Distribution to Texans on Relief Rolls
