Edwards Chevrolet Company shows today several 1968 Chevrolet models. Nationwide sales begin today with 41 models across six lines, each line distinct in styling. All cars are larger than 1967, featuring long hood and short rear quarters from Corvette and Camaro design. Notable changes appear in Chevelle and Corvette with all new sheet metal. sports models use a standard 307 cubic inch V8.
Funeral services set for 3:30 p.m. today at Barnheart chapel for Mrs. W. A. Akridge born Sept 4 1885 in Collin County. She died in Sherman hospital at 7:10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial in Cross Roads Cemetery. Survived by two daughters, Roscoe Pace of Denison and Paul Cook of Whitewright, a grandson Harold Pace and great grandson Harold Pace Jr.
Mayor Burrell Summers appoints Carl May as Presiding Judge for the October 3 vote at Firemen's Hall. Polls run 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. to decide if the city shifts from a commission to an Aldermanic form with five councilmen and a mayor.
Ww. C. Lancaster, 78, longtime barber in Greenville, died Friday in Greenville. Funeral at Wesley Methodist Church, burial in Forest Hills Cemetery. Born March 27, 1889 in Arkansas. Married Annie Barker in Greenville in April 1917. Survived by wife, daughter Mrs. S. T. Montgomery Jr. of Whitewright, granddaughter Mrs. Dan Hennig, and two grandsons Sammy and Bill Montgomery.
Texas Highway Department reports in its 50th Anniversary year that over 1,000 miles of new highways are under construction in Texas at all times.
Jack Lackey succeeds as president of Oak Hill Cemetery Association and trustee of Oak Hill Cemetery Foundation after Philip Earnheart resigns to focus on other duties. Lackey previously served as vice president. Foundation assets total 47,221.15 with real estate loans and securities, while the Cemetery Association holds 1,026.29 for maintenance.
In Tom Bean, Ed Doolittle and Zeke Grubb dominated a country store gathering with talk of rising hospital costs and the supposed effects of Medicare and a strong society. Ed cited a Wall Street Journal piece predicting hospital expenses rising to 60 dollars daily by 1970 and 70 by 1975, while Zeke warned of postal costs and hospital overflows. Gulf Oil Corp and Big Three Industrial Gas plan to start nitrogen tire refills at Houston Gulf stations this September under Tire Life. They claim nitrogen extends tire life by about 25 percent for cars and 50 percent for trucks by reducing oxidation, contrasting with ordinary air that is about 20 percent oxygen and 80 percent nitrogen.

James P. Henry of Austin, formerly of Whitewright, was killed in an automobile accident Wednesday morning. Miss Mary Perkinson hosted a birthday party for her granddaughter Mary Cecile Akin of Durant with many relatives in attendance. James W. Henderson, 83, living south of town, died Friday.
Whitewright defeated Allen 26 8 at Tiger Field led by Warren Rice who scored twice on short runs and a 65 yard TD connection with Chuck Watkins. Ed Caraway added a fourth quarter TD pass from Will Cureton as Willie Wright earned Tiger of the Week for rugged guard play and blocking. The Tigers visit Leonard next.
