The Dallas Area Tuberculosis Association mobil X ray unit will visit Whitewright on Tuesday September 26 to provide free chest X rays for adults 15 years and over. It will operate downtown from 12 noon to 3 pm and again from 4 to 7 pm.
O A Strickland 64 of Aubrey died September 10 after a ten day illness. Funeral services were held at Pilot Point with burial in Belew Cemetery. He was a Baptist. Survivors include his wife, two daughters Mrs A R Martin and Mrs Dorothy Conley, and two sons Perman Strickland and James Strickland.
State Treasurer Jesse James reports a record 10,995,093 dollars in interest on time account deposits for the fiscal year ending August 31. The income, reinvested to compound monthly, reduces tax needs and signals further gains as rates rise to 4.5 percent. The state holds over 252 million dollars deposited across more than 1,000 banks, up from last year and two years prior.
The Missionary Society met Monday afternoon with Mrs. R. E. Hickman as hostess and Mrs. T. E. Sears as leader. They signed cards for Mrs. W. A. Whitewright Tigers rally in the second half to beat Farmersville 29 14 led by Chuck Watkins whose two punt returns set up two Will Cureton TD passes to Ed Caraway and a 25 yard strike. Caraway caught three TD passes while Watkins opened the scoring on a 14 yard run. Tigers face Allen next Friday at 8 pm. Kenneth McKinney named Tiger of the Week for blocking and linebacker play.

Rev Dale Gore longtime pastor of the First Baptist Church here resigns effective Sept 25 to become pastor at the First Baptist Church of Goldthwaite Texas. During his 50 year tenure remodeling of the building was completed and an elementary building plan approved. The church gained 134 members, 67 by baptism and he served as Grayson Baptist Association moderator and Rotary director. Mrs Gore active in church duties and civic life and taught remedial classes.
Washington reports a new 285.6 million GI bill takes effect in October benefiting all veterans. It raises educational allowances and pensions for Vietnam GIs and others, adds a cost of living increase averaging over 5 percent, and boosts survivor benefits. Widows in low income brackets gain about 8.5 percent on their pension checks.
The Gore family plans relocation to Goldthwaite on September 27 with Mr. Gore assuming the pastorate there on October 1. The local grade school spring reading program context is noted as background in the report.

The Grayson County Bar Association presents a Certificate of Appreciation to local attorney Robert Doss for leadership in establishing the Gray son County Memorial Law Library and renovating the Bar Association Conference Room in the Court House. Presentation made last week by Clifford Powell at Doss's Denison office. August 1967.
Texas draft boards will forward 4000 young men for pre induction mental and physical exams in October. Colonel Morris S. Schwartz, state Selective Service director, said the same number is slated for September. Local boards must provide 977 men for October induction, part of a national call of 17000 for the army.
The cockroach, a health hazard and nuisance, outlives nature and man with a 280 million year fossil record. Scientists say some survive a thermo-nuclear holocaust. Despite pesticides and experiments in endocrinology, roaches persist into the 2000s, with about 3500 species worldwide.

Robert Vance Sinclair, 55, of Sherman, died in a fiery collision between a gravel truck and a Volkswagen two miles north of Whitewright on Highway 69 at 4 30 p m Monday. J C Wetzel of Whitewright, driver of the gravel truck, escaped with minor injuries after his vehicle overturned. Sinclair’s car and the other vehicle were destroyed and whitewright firefighters extinguished the blaze.
The First Baptist Church called David Howard as Minister of Music and Youth and hired his wife Janet as church secretary. Howard, a Greenville native, directed music at Shady Grove Baptist Church and studies at East Texas State University Commerce, where he is drum major of the ETSU marching band. The couple moved to Whitewright this week to serve.
Texas tightens its habitual offender rules with new license suspension standards for under 21. Beginning Jan 1 1968 two moving violations in a year can suspend a young driver, while serious offenses still trigger immediate action. The changes follow a rise in age requirements for licensing and provisional status for those under 21.
Senator John Tower reports Texas military payroll at 1.5 billion for the fiscal year ending mid-1967 covering 280,709 personnel. Gains include Army payroll up 215.5 million with 29,831 military and 7,259 civilians, Air Force personnel down but pay up 37.1 million, Navy adds 3.5 million and 423 civilians, with minor uniformed personnel decrease and overall shifts in civilian staffing.
