Dove Recipe Texas Style Opens Dove Season Feast

The article outlines a Texas style dove recipe using 8 to 10 dove breasts wrapped in 6 to 10 bacon slices with jalapenos salt pepper onion and bell pepper and wild rice. Local Punt Pass and Kick registrations open for youths

Whitewright area youths aged 8 to 13 may register for the annual Punt Pass and Kick contest. Registration forms are with Howard Hodge Jr, middle school principal. Bob Worthy Ford sponsors the local event, with the date set for late September or early October. District round is October 15 in Denison, and finalists occur during the Super Bowl halftime in New Orleans next January. Worthy invites all interested children to sign up and notes the local event will be scheduled on its own night.

Oldest Grayson preacher plans on 80th birthday service

The Rev. W. R. Marley known as Preacher Marley, oldest active Baptist preacher in Grayson County, planned to fill the Kentuckytown Baptist Church pulpit on his 80th birthday August 28. Illness forced surgery and altered plans but the service and noon meal proceeded as much as possible. Marley, born in Burkesville Ky, moved to Van Alstyne at 14, pastored multiple churches, and emphasizes a life of preaching for the Lord.

Local Rotary to Host District Club Official

Whitewright Rotarians will host district governor Jack Curtis of Garland for a two day official visit. Thursday sessions at the Sherman Holiday Inn include a 5 pm conference with President James W. Donaghey and Secretary Philip Barnheart followed by a 6 pm dinner with board members and officers. Friday noon meeting at the 200 Club quarters will feature Curtis reporting on Rotary programs and club projects. Rotarians and Rotary Anns invited to attend each event. Curtis has led in Garland and Dallas business and civic groups and is a WWII veteran.

Whitewright Schools Begin Phase II Accreditation Work

Whitewright schools start Phase II of a five year accreditation plan begun last year by the Texas Education Agency. Supt. Larry Threadgill says classes will dismiss at 2 p.m. next Tuesday to let teachers begin the Phase II self study. The plan includes about 10 working sessions and focuses on assessing progress toward district goals and diagnosing instructional programs.

Mayor Walker Returns to Town During Recovery

The many friends of Mayor Dick Walker were pleased to see him out briefly as he regains strength after major surgery. He visited downtown Tuesday, met at Bob Worthy Ford where he is sales manager, checked city hall progress, and surveyed Whitewright’s new city hall and civic center project built largely through his efforts.
