Enrollment in Whitewright classrooms reached 432 with 389 in white schools and 43 in the Negro school according to Supt. S. T. Montgomery Jr. Rain measured about 1.5 inches last night as farmers await cotton harvest delays.
Grayson Sheriff Woody Blanton reports 108 arrests for August with traffic and drunk arrests at 15 each, swindling 11, lunacy 8, simple assault 7, investigations 7, DWI 6, theft over 50 5, car theft 3, rape 3, and one case of attempted murder. 93 civil papers served, fines and costs 1307, 187 investigation calls received.

The Communications Workers union urged a national walkout starting 6 am Monday affecting 200 000 telephones workers. About 54 000 CWA members voted to strike over wages and new contract terms while picketing exchanges would pull another 146 000 workers from service. The Bell System dispute could curb long distance calling though local dial systems may see limited impact.
The Agriculture Department forecast grain sorghum production nearly doubles the 1956 crop. The 1957 acreage rises sharply with Texas up 44 percent Oklahoma up 69 percent and Colorado more than doubling. Yields are put at 26.7 bushels per acre versus 21.9 last year and a 10 year average of 19. The rise reflects record acreage new varieties pump irrigation and favorable moisture across most of the Southwest.
