Byrd Sees Tax Relief If Spending Cuts Materialize
Senator Byrd of Virginia warned that if the Eisenhower administration trims federal spending and revenues hold, there could be up to 6 billion dollars available for tax cuts and debt reduction next year. He favors applying 2 billion to the debt and using the rest for tax relief, noting the current national debt exceeds 273.5 billion. A comprehensive tax reduction could aid middle and lower brackets while some business relief is possible, though prospects depend on spending slowdown.
