Mrs. Margaret J. Kirkpatrick died Friday at her daughter’s home in Howe. Funeral held at Presbyterian church in Whitewright with Rev. Fender Stucky and Gay officiating. Interment at City Cemetery East Whitewright. Born April 26 1833 Nelson County Tennessee. Widow of F. E. Kirkpatrick who died in Civil War 1863. Survived by sons Henry and Rev W A Kirkpatrick and daughter Mrs R C Medlin.

Government Issues Cotton Crop Report
Washington reports August showed less deterioration than last year and the ten year average. The Agriculture Department forecast 12,787,000 equivalent 500 pound bales for the season down 169,000 from mid August, up 2,658,000 from last year, with the Sept 1 condition at 59.3 percent and an acre yield of 151.5 pounds. Prices fell $5 a bale following the release and continued to drop.

Cotton Prices Slip Amid Yard Delays and High Gin Yields
The cotton market fell about four dollars per bale, with lint at 21.75 to 22 cents and seed cotton at 8 cents. A rush to the gins left thirty bales waiting in one gin yard. About 1800 bales arrived at gins and 200 at the public yard from other points.

Fire at North Texas Gin Wednesday Night
Fire crews were called to the North Texas Gin around 6 30 Wednesday evening. The blaze started in the press area and was thought out before a second alarm brought more help. Cotton in the gin stood burned as the second arrival sprayed water, but the plant was soaked yet ready to operate the next morning.

A cotton house at the Hill gin in Trenton was destroyed by fire on Wednesday afternoon with about 125 bales of seed cotton lost. Bells gin cotton house burned with about 75 bales of seed cotton. Westminster saw a cotton house and 50 bales destroyed. Randolph school building also burned and Bonham lost three residences Wednesday night. The Red River Valley Fair tickets go on sale at $1 through local banks, Sept 30 to Oct 4 in Sherman. The fair promises enlarged exhibits and notable pageants. Mr and Mrs C W Hampton hosted a large dinner for visiting relatives including Gambrell, Craft, Petty, Hamilton, Hornbuckle, and Harless.

Gun Battle in Denison Ends Without Injuries

Howe Lumber Yard Fire Causes $33,000 in Losses
A fire at the Galbraith Foxworth Company lumber yard in Howe destroyed the yard and three residences Monday morning. The lumber yard loss is $25,000 insured, with two houses owned by Mrs. J. A. Hughes of Sherman sustaining about $2,000 and other occupants reporting various insured losses. The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
