In Kemmerer Wyoming at mine No. 5 of the Kemmerer Coal Company a blast at 11 45 this morning entombed forty seven miners. Nine bodies were recovered near the portal and twelve men escaped unharmed. Fire in the mine blocks rescue efforts and the main entrance remains blocked by debris.

Democratic candidate for Missouri governor John W. Davis rests in Kansas City before continuing to Des Moines. He previews a strategy criticizing the Republican administration and pledging honesty in government while praising the Bunce ton farm rally as the largest of its kind he has seen.
Earl Lindsey aged 13, son of W W Lindsey, was killed in Bonham Texas this morning when an ice truck backed against him and crushed him against a brick wall.
The Grayson County Missionary Baptist Association met at Tom Bean with Judge D B Steed presiding for a multi day session. The 45 churches reported 8123 members last year and noted record baptisms and growing membership across the county. Visitors included Rev T W Herndon budget director of the Baptist Executive Board.
County Tax Assessor J. H. Davis completes the 1924 tax roll and mails a copy to the State Comptroller in Austin. He also forwards rolls to County Tax Collector D. R. Vaughn for receipts. Total property value in Grayson is 48 269 210 with land 15 508 625 and city property 14 438 650.
Celina opens bids for a new Methodist church to cost about 30000 dollars. The brick and concrete building will have a basement and modern conveniences. The town already has Presbyterians and Baptists with new 30000 dollar structures, replacing wooden worship spaces.
Riley Beasley eight years old, son of Mr and Mrs W T Beasley of the Ely community, is proclaimed community cotton picker champion after picking 252 pounds in a day. He weighed forty four pounds and picked six times his weight. If he continues at this rate, he will become a remarkable picker when grown.
Murray Smith was arrested and jailed in Bonham on burglary charges for allegedly breaking into the home of Arthur Ballard north of Whitewright Monday night. Sheriff’s department officials released the information Tuesday morning.
Austin reports Gov. Neff may be abroad on Davis campaign. If so, Lt. Gov. Davidson would call a 38th Legislature extraordinary session to remove disabilities on former Gov. James E. Ferguson. Rep. W. C. Morgan pushes petition and memorial to urge action this session, with legal review delaying final move.
Miss Vittitoe, once of Kentuckytown and now in Los Angeles, received a large silver cup for top national popularity and beauty in How to Sell magazine. She also carried the California state title by a wide margin, aided by her “See Mary First” slogan and Hollywood sales office fame.
Farmersville reports the arrest of Elmer King Eck Morrow John Shubert and his son John Jr on charges of cotton theft. King and Morrow were accused of taking and selling cotton from the local yard while Shubert and son allegedly hauled a bale from Wake Hickman’s field. Cotton in both cases was recovered and identified.
Sherman Sept. 14 W C Carter 71 of Whitesboro died from injuries after being struck by an automobile there a few days ago. The driver remains unknown. Carter had lived in Whitesboro since 1871 and his wife died five years ago.
Mrs. Annette Harp opens Dunning classes at the start of school offering one class lesson and one private lesson weekly. Lessons use games songs and rhythm pictures and aim as recreation for children. She also teaches advanced piano and voice at $7.00 per month.
Dr George C Butte resigns as dean of the Texas law school to seek the Republican nomination for Texas governor. He arrived in Austin amid 500 well wishers including Felix Robertson campaign supporters and Postmaster George H Sparenberg leading GOP supporters.
A semi official statement from Berlin says all Cabinet members agree on war guilt and Germany’s entry into the League of Nations. The plan will be discussed at a Sept. 23 Cabinet meeting presided by President Ebert. Chancellor Marx and Foreign Minister Stresemann reported no differences between them and full Cabinet approval of talks with Dr Stresemann and Dr Oscar Hergt.
E A Berry state Democratic chairman traveled from Houston to Georgetown and predicted an overwhelming Democratic victory in Texas for the November election. He said Mrs Ferguson will sweep the state, with strong support offsetting any defections to Dr Butte. Berry noted many non‑voters in primaries may cast ballots in November for Mrs Ferguson.
In Vancouver on September 16 J T Phelan superintendent of the Dominion Telegraph Company regained consciousness after a week in a comatose state following his wife’s death. A bedside Morse code device ticked his private call PN and a message Every day in every way prompted him to sip milk, starting nourishment after six days. He was reported convalescent Tuesday.
Rev. J. A. Dickey of Denison attends the sixth annual American Legion convention in session at St. Paul. He represents the local post as a delegate elected before moving to Denison.

Boosters from Sherman toured here Wednesday morning with the Sherman Municipal Band. C A Shock rode a farmer’s wagon to announce the exposition set for Sept 29 to Oct 4. The event promises larger scale, higher costs, and record attendance, with pageants slated for Sept 30 and Oct 2.

Mr Lenwood Lovelace of Bonham and Miss Lucy Webster of Sherman wed at Howe on June 16. The bride is daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Webster. The couple will reside in Bonham with many friends sending best wishes.
Fred W. Smith, elected Whitewright public schools superintendent, arrives with family to prepare for 8 45 Friday morning opening. He has taught in Gainesville Greenville Mineral Wells and was McAllen high school principal before accepting Whitewright post. Faculty for the new session includes F. G. Tacquard as principal and several teachers across high and grammar schools.
The annual fashion show sponsored by J. F. Lilley and Hudson, Davis & Co., will be held Friday evening at 8 o'clock in the grammar school auditorium. The event features living models displaying fall coats dresses and millinery from the sponsors plus a home talent program of music and readings. Admission is free.
Burl Anderson, a Black man living four miles northwest of town, was shot and killed just before midnight last Sunday by Phillip Bowen, also Black. Bowen used a single barrel shotgun and was taken into custody. Bond set at $1,000 after an examining trial Monday.
Dallas news reports Mrs Edna Curlee was sentenced to ten years in the penitentiary after a jury found her guilty of murder in the August killing of Mrs Myrtle Rine in a crowded department store. Curlee claimed self defense claiming Rine ruined her home. Lawyers plan a possible new trial or appeal.
W H Davidson reports checks paid last week on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday were destroyed in a Wednesday night fire. He asks anyone who gave him such checks to call and replace them with new ones.
