Whitewright community notices invite scouts and celebrate local events

Whitewright parents and boys are invited to a covered dish dinner and meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the Educational Building of the First United Methodist Church, with Dick Capps available at 364-2155. Whitewright Tigers Open Season With Optimism For 1976

Coach Sessom leads Whitewright into the 1976 season against Farmersville at 8 p.m. Ten seniors, 11 juniors, and two sophomores form a 60-man squad with 15 lettermen returning. The Tigers emphasize speed over size, with Steve Hodge passing 229 times last year and 60 players reporting for practice.

Domino Tourney Planned by The 200 Club on Grand Avenue

The 200 Club held a regular meeting on Grand Avenue with Mrs. Hugh Hunter presiding. They scheduled a domino tournament for the last week of September to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis drive. Members thanked donors and noted improvements including painting and a serving bar in the kitchen.

Most Stores and Offices to Be Closed Monday

Whitewright plans a Labor Day closure with city offices banks and many retail stores shut for the holiday. Whitwright schools suspend classes marking the start of the new term as some food stores also plan to close.

Dental Assisting Program Registration At GCC

Grayson County College offers a one year Dental Assisting program with lectures lab and clinicals. Registration continues through Sept 15 for fall 1976 intake with classes building toward certification by the American Dental Assistants Association.

Vacationing family visits seven states and Canada

Mrs. Retha Sanderson and her son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Sanderson of Wichita Falls, returned Monday after a vacation through Colorado, Idaho, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, California, and New Mexico. The Seattle to Victoria boat ride and the London Bridge impressed her, with the bridge described as “as pretty as they say it is.”

Daniel Brinkley Recovers From Auto Injury

Daniel Brinkley son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Brinkley recently underwent neurology tests at Baylor Hospital Dallas and now does physical therapy in Sherman three days a week. He suffered a head injury in the accident causing partial paralysis of his right leg. Collins Visit Six Flags Barbecue Trip for Sherman Firm

Olsen Bodies Co of Sherman held a Saturday barbecue and outing for employees and families at Six Flags Over Texas. Mr and Mrs Don Collins from Whitewright attended. On the return trip they met Mrs Fred Garner at DFW Airport, who had visited Mr and Mrs Don F Albaugh and family of Dumfries Virginia.

Graveside Rites Held For Price Infant

Graveside services for Stephanie Sherene Price were held at Grove Hill cemetery with the Rev. Johnny Harris officiating. The child was stillborn in Snerman hospital Aug. 23, 1976. Survivors are the parents Mr. and Mrs. Billy Price and two brothers Stephen and Thomas Eugene, all of Leonard.

The Whitewright Pigskin club held its regular meeting Tuesday in the grade school cafetorium with President Howard Hodge presiding. Parents and players watched films of recent scrimmages and discussed upcoming projects.

Locals Attend Passion Play in Arkansas Trip

Mr and Mrs D T Spencer of Whitewright Mr and Mrs Rick Spencer of Pilot Grove and Mr and Mrs Bob Spencer with Jeremy of Gunter spent Thursday in Little Rock Ark and Friday and Saturday in Eureka Springs Ark. They attended the Passion Play in Eureka Springs during the visit.

Honored on 90th Birthday at Surprise Party

Mrs. J. H. Gosnell, Sr. was surprised for her 90th birthday on Sunday with a party. Granddaughters Annie May Dodson of Bonham and Frances Taylor of Fort Worth brought dinner cake and gifts. Brother Taylor Autry and sister Frankie Williams attended and everyone said they had a great time.

Teen Class Set At Presbyterian Church Whitewright

A new class for teens and pre teens begins at Promotion Day Sunday at First Presbyterian Church Whitewright. Classes start 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. and the Lord's Supper. Rev W F Rogan will lead the communion meditation on Fire on the Altar. Visitors welcome. A new series of junior story sermons starts Sept 12 in morning worship.

200 Club Singing Held Monday Night

Leslie Folsom Enters Eastfield College in Dallas

Cystic Fibrosis Drive Planned for Whitewright Week

Mrs. Omitrie Spencer, chair woman, announced the Whitewright Cystic Fibrosis drive for the week of Sept 26 with other activities scheduled during that period. Cystic fibrosis ranks second to cancer in child deaths, affecting millions of U S children and backed by the Cystic Fibrosis foundation research care and education programs.

Weekend Visitors and Health Notes Appear in Abilene and Oklahoma City

Mr and Mrs Bill Baker and daughter Donna Jayne visited Abilene with Donna Jayne a student at Abilene Christian University. Mr and Mrs Bill Cooper and daughter Suzanne visited Oklahoma City. Suzanne a student at Oklahoma Christian College. The list notes children with cystic fibrosis and other lung diseases including asthma chronic bronchitis bronchiectasis childhood emphysema and recurrent pneumonia. A Whitewright campaign last year was successful and is hoped to improve this year.

WWI Veterans Attend Barracks Meeting in Commerce

Veterans from Whitewright attended the WWI Veterans Barracks meeting in Commerce at the Chamber of Commerce building. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Dusty Rhodes Mr and Mrs Frank Smith and Dist Comdr John Curtis and his wife who were setting up the district meeting planned for Commerce in October.
