Whitewright youths to trick or treat for Unicef on Oct 31

The Methodist church youth group will host a trick or treating event for Unicef starting with a church dinner at 5 p.m. on Sunday Oct 31. Residents may donate by leaving porch lights on for the children. They will return to the church for evening services and all are welcome.

Singers Gather for 200 Club Meeting in Whitewright

A Monday evening gathering at the 200 Club on Grand Avenue Whitewright drew attendees including Mrs Vera Chesser Mr and Mrs Tom Brown and several others from Whitewright Tom Bean Bonham Sherman and nearby towns. The event featured a pianist and engaged participants such as Arnold Henson and John Clark among the group.

Tigers Face Cooper In District Showdown Friday

Whitewright’s Tigers host Cooper Bull dogs in a district first place clash after a 49-0 victory over Fannindel. Halfback Willie Ballard ran 190 yards on nine carries, while fullback Stan Smith rushed 208 yards on 21 carries. Quarterback Steve Hodge threw for 170 yards with Walter Daniels catching six passes for 100 yards. The defense held Fannindel to minus 13 rushing yards and 58 receiving yards.

Tell the Good News at Bethel WMU program

Mrs. Alva Key presented the Tell the Good News program to Bethel WMU with Edith Alexander opening in prayer and each member sharing how they heard the best news. Assisting were Jewel Jarvis Mayme Lewis Jessie Williams Phyllis Williams and Billie Bartley. A pink and blue shower for Tanja Cate Whiting was planned and a future meeting will be led by Lewis and Viela McKinney.

Whitewright Wins $89,000 HUD Sewer Grant

The City of Whitewright received an $89,000 community block grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to eliminate malfunctioning septic tanks in East Whitewright. Sewer service will extend to all homes with lift stations in low areas. bids held after four consecutive notices. Mayor Walker thanked HUD staff and Texoma Regional Planning for assistance.

Whitewright residents go to the polls Tuesday with the nation to elect a president, vice president, a Congressman and other officials. If local interest remains weak, turnout here could be light compared to the event's importance.

Funeral services for David Taylor 54 of Arlington were held Oct 22 at Earnheart Funeral Home. He died Oct 20 in an Arlington hospital. Burial at Pilot Grove Cemetery. Survivor: son Michael. daughters Phyllis Lawley and Patrica Rea. siblings Guy, Inez Doggett, Ernest McMillin. five grandchildren. 200 Club Meets Thursday at Grand Avenue Club

Arnold Henson presided for the 200 club business meeting held Thursday in the club rooms on Grand avenue. Hostesses for the week of Oct 25 29 were announced and several members enjoyed 42 and domino games. The club is open daily 1 to 4 p.m. and holds a regular meeting Thursday at 7 p.m. Singing occurs Mondays at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Pee-Wee Team Defeats Van Alstyne 14 to 0

The Whitewright Pee-Wee football team defeated Van Alstyne 14-0 on Saturday. Mike Fortner scored the opening TD after a solid drive, Nick Coleman added a fourth quarter TD with a successful PAT. Coaches praised Fortner Coleman Daniels Orr for offense and Owens Cleveland Dickson Hames Knight for defense as the team improves to 4-1 and heads to Howe 2 at Van Alstyne Saturday at 10 a.m.

Fidelis Class Social Held With Decorated Tables
