Whitewright Voters Back Carter Amid Record Turnout in Texas

Whitewright turnout neared record levels with 522 votes and Carter leading Ford 359 to 160. In Grayson County Carter, Bentsen, Roberts and Wendlandt showed strong results as statewide contests favored Carter with about 52 percent to Ford’s 47 amid late-night vote counts. Water amendments No. 1 and No. 2 passed and failed respectively in the county.

Community Club Meets With Edith Grider Whitewright

Edith Grider hosts the Whitewright Community Club meeting on Oct 29 with Nan Robinson as hostess. Officers for the new year to be chosen by a nominating committee. A quilt top will be quilted at the 200 club building. December 9 will feature a Christmas dinner and gift exchange.

Fall Festival Set To Open Downtown Saturday

Downtown Whitewright hosts the annual PTO Fall Festival this Saturday starting at 5 p.m. with classes from kindergarten through 11th grade offering games, booths, and activities including cake walks, bean bag throws, a dunking booth and a Spook House. The event closes with a meeting on November 9 at 7:30 p.m. featuring Carl Kelly on Is Your Child Creative? and details on carnival proceeds.

Baptist WMU Meets at First Baptist Church Program

The WMU of the First Baptist Church held a Monday evening business and mission program led by President Mrs. Florence Lewis. Secretary treasurer reports were given by Mrs. Diane Stephens. The group planned the Lottie Moon program for December 6 at Mrs. Weldon Wilson's home with a salad supper and set a church goal of 1150 dollars.

UNICEF Drive Nets $130.50

The United Methodist Youth and sponsors report collecting 130.50 during Trick or Treat for UNICEF drive held Sunday evening. Rev. Bob Bryan says checks mailed Nov. 10 and donations still accepted via him or Mrs. Peggy Partridge. Volunteers thanked for hospitality and support.

Tigers Hunt Wolfe City After 19–0 Cooper Win

Whitewright Tigers remain unbeaten after a soggy 19 point second half rout of Cooper 19–0 to seize the district lead with Wolfe City upcoming. Fullback Stan Smith led the ground attack with 101 yards on 20 carries and Will ie Ballard scored three touchdowns as Tigers held Cooper to zero in the first half and surged in the second.
