Halloween duties urge caution as children roam the streets for treats amid past poison and traffic fears. Local reports note WHS seniors with similar names, a Fall Carnival fund drive for the Middle School, and UNICEF door campaigns on Oct. 31. Also referenced are hometown visits, pageants, hospital stays, and community gatherings in Arlington Sherman Denison Fort Worth areas.
The PTO Fall Carnival, Saturday between the elementary and high schools, starts at 5 30 p m and runs until the last person leaves. Thirty one booths from kindergarten to 11th grade offer games, homemade treats, and raffles with proceeds funding a middle school project.
Whitewright’s Cemeteries Improvement fund nears 5592 with 34 new gifts totaling 1460 from supporters including California Arizona and Arkansas. Oak Hill and City cemeteries push beautification under the 1978 Centennial plan. federal grant funds 46594 aid labor with jobless or low income applicants.
Karen Jarvis is among 25 nominees for Miss Grayson County College. A Whitewright native and medical lab technician club member, she will compete Nov 3 at 8 p.m. in the college auditorium.
Kirk Watson carried the Whitewright Pee Wees to a 6-0 win over Van Alstyne on Saturday. The undefeated squad advances to the final game of the season against Tom Bean at 1 p.m. Coaches name offensive standouts Kirk Watson and Greg Threadgill. Defensive standouts include Demetures Cleveland Joe Chat Beazley Scott Chesser Greg Almond and Kirk Watson.
Mr. and Mrs. Emory Christian recentl y returned from Hays Kansas where they attended a bi zone Rotary International meeting for past present and incoming district governors. The gathering drew about 275 Rotarians with representation from Texas New Mexico Oklahoma Kansas Nebraska Louisiana Arkansas Missouri and one Rotary district in Illinois. Incoming International President Clem Renous of Australia attended. The annual meeting trains incoming district governors. next year it moves to St Louis and the year after to Houston.
Whitewright and Cooper remain unbeaten in district play after decisive Friday wins. Whitewright edged Fannindel 41-0 while Cooper shut out Honey Grove 35-0, setting up a 16-A clash at Cooper Friday night likely to crown the district champion. Starters include Stan Smith and Reid Pittman for Whitewright with Gary Tillett and Eddie Howell pacing the offense, while Cooper relies on J.C. Morris and Denny Hagen to run and rack up yards.
Whitewright and Van Alstyne have long stood as fierce non district rivals in football. The latest clash drew strong fan fervor as players fought hard to win, despite the game not counting in district standings.
Whitewright volunteers report 73 percent of the United Fund goal with $3,488 raised toward $4,756 as the drive enters its last week. Drive chairman Mrs Gene Shaw notes Whitewright leads area percentages for four straight weeks, with Van Alstyne 43 percent and Sherman 53 percent.
Six Whitewright FFA members attended Area V banquet in Fort Worth honoring 1976 77 award winners. Jimmy Turner Mark Neathery and Mark Woodruff earned Lone Star Farmer degrees. The chapter also received a superior chapter rating and heard a talk by State FFA President Elvin Caraway.
