The excerpt contrasts pain with triumph after life’s battles and cites autumn’s grand glories from nature’s mutations. It notes Earth’s atmosphere as 21 percent oxygen and 79 percent nitrogen, and records Prince Albert’s death from typhoid fever in 1861.
